DeckMasters installs around 90 decks a year 3/4 x6'' Ipe is used as decking on 80% of my projects fastened to joists 16'' on center with construstion adhesive and two 1 5/8''stainless steel square drive trim head screws per joist using more fasteners is not going to help secure the decking. This being said I am at a slight loss understanding why 3/4 ipe is too thin for decking. Could you enlighten me please Trouble?? John

Some guys actually sell that stuff as a way to waterproof the underside of the deck. Doing that would be a good way to install a swamp under your project and will not make the .40 acq joists last any longer. Now the copper strip inbetween the decking and the frame has some merit, the more moisture the more the copper leaches, the more copper the more protection from organic growth. This would back up all the copper already in the acq lumber. A person has to ask them self using Ipe,.40 acq material , Stainlesss steel screws, and adhesive exactly why should I do this???? J

Noobs - I'm thinking of going the same direction as you. However prices are much higher than when you said "I can get 21mm for about $3 and less for 1x6." Where did you find that 21mm Ipe and 1x6 Ipe? Thanks in advance,

I have installed ipe posts on the outside of the rim joist on the deck I built for my home. I used a bracket system from a company called Decklok. You may want to google to their website and check them out. About 10 bucks a bracket with hardware as I recall.
