Bomb scare today

My son was in a high school this morning where he leads groups of boys (most of them are on probation) to change cognitive thinking errors.. and the school went into lockdown 1/2 way through the session due to a bomb threat. He said they just carried on with the group, and when it was done he went into the hall and found chaos. He said he's never seen so many police officers in one place before. He's 24 and he said they all kept asking him who he was and what he was doing in the building, which was perfectly understandable. He's expected to dress casually for this series of sessions, therefore he doesn't look like a teacher or like a student. They let him leave right away for some reason, even though everyone else had to stay for quite some time after he left. A 15 year old male student has been charged. He dropped by work to tell me about it, he sure doesn't get rattled by stuff like this!

When I was teaching high school, we had a bomb threat, and everyone was evacuated to the football stadium.

Later, I was called into the principals office and asked why this particular boy, was out of my class, at the time of the threat.

Happens, it was end of year, and we were supposed to let students find their lost books, so I let him out of class.

He then went into the coaches office, cause they were out for lunch and made the phone call.

You just never know!

Of course, my student was not serious. Just playing an end of the year prank.

You must live fairly close to me. The city where I know there was a bomb threat at a high school is only about 10 minutes away from me.

Hey guys, Yeah, I agree with all of you. I've been so sick I hadn't left the house and only heard all the news late in the day and it didn't affect my kids and their school at all. My own feeling is, like yours, that the police didn't overreact--they really only had the choice of reacting or not reacting and I'd prefer they reacted. I also fet really outraged that a paid publicity stunt was the cause. I'm all for free speech and protest and even for performance art--for instance I"m a big fan of the "freeway blogger" who puts up huge, self made, bilboards with political statements on them and then photographs them and posts them on the internet--but those things are done to raise consciousness not to sell a product. Commercialization creeps everywhere--there was just an article about how new yorks stringent anti billboarding ads are being circumvented by collusion between companies looking for advertising space and the special hoardings they build around job sites and over the sidewalks when they are working on skyscrapers. Ad companies are putting larger and larger and totally illegal wraparound bilboards on those things to squeeze more money from public space. I really resent that. That day will stay with me forever! My late husbands law firm was in the first block of the bombing, it sucked the entire front end of the office into the building, almost two rooms back. It was dreadful. My hubby was there, my daughter was there and two of my closest friends. I was in a tanning bed about 30 min away from the site, the impact cracked the top glass on the bed though. I got out, told em what happened and left. On the drive home, heard it on the radio. Got home and of course tried to call to no avail. My MIL calls all freaked out, others called freaked too. I swear I was never so scared. And to think one of our own citizens did it! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This was in a middle school. 5th-8th grade. It's not like there having finals, or big tests. My thinking is, with the nice weather (finally) some kid thought it would be nice to have some time off, or is looking for some attention, good or bad. Leslie

Heather... and another high school had an evacuation due to a sewage back up? I live about 25 minutes away. DS lives there right there in the city.

When I was a Senior in High School we had a bomb threat that was called in just at the end of the day of school, they made us sit on the swchoolbuses for hours, till the cops came and searched the entire school. . That was back in 1970. Yes,,they had bomb threats back in the Stone Age! s

There was a time in the early 90's when there were bomb threats once or twice a month in one of the courts where I regularly appear. It was awful - they would have to clear everyone out and call in the bomb-sniffing dogs, and it was a 2-hour production every time.

I don't think they ever found out who did it. There was a little restaurant across the street from the court, though, and we used to jokingly say that the proprietor was the culprit, because business boomed on bomb threat days.
