Mine is all bonded, including the salt system panel, pumps, heater, blower, and so on because it is part of the National Electric Code, and should always be done regardless of having a salt system. It's for your own safety besides.

While salt may be partly responsible for heater corrosion problems, spa heaters without salt have exhibited similar problems. I use a grounding rod for grounding the heater.
The national electric code requires bonding all metal components around the pool. There is a difference between a bond and a ground.

Big, HUGE MISTAKE. Never add a second ground rod. You create a potential battery between the grounds.

Bonding is tying things to the same ground as the power source, typically the home's main circuit breaker panel.

It is an extra layer of protection, an out of circuit grounding. If the conduit providing power to is cut, it's still grounded because the bonding wire is still there.

Preventing the battery situation will help to ensure electrolysis does not occur. Electrolysis causes corrosion.

All metal objects such as aluminum ladder/rail cups, light niches, pumps, blowers heaters, controllers, and breaker panels should be bonded.

Some locals even require the water in the pool be bonded by setting a conductive lug to the inside of skimmer bodies.

H2O in its pure for is an insulator. Adding minerals such as salt ad elements such as silver, copper and chlorine turn it int an electrolyte, that is it is now a liquid conductor of electricity.

NOT a hugh mistake. The heater is isolated with a ground rod.
Main point to kencc was that other factors can contribute to heater failure besides corrosive characteristics of salt!
