Elevated front porch with off center door

Hello, we are building a 68 ft long X 8ft deep front porch that is elevated about 10 feet from the ground. (Cape cod style home) We planned on building 8 ft wide steps with a landing half way down in the center of this porch. However, our front door is not centered. Do the stairs always have to be centered to the door or would it be ok to keep them in the middle. I'm out of ideas and my brain hurts from stressing over it. If anybody has any suggestions I would really appreciate it :-))

The stairway can be anywhere you want it to be. Centreing it to the door would be fine. Don't overthink this. Just be sure to support that deck properly. I just witnessed the aftermath of a deck collapse at a fishing cabin in upstate NY. 2 kids and 2 adults all hospitalized. Looking at ALL the decks on the cabins the next morning not a single one was to code and could come down any minute. 3 groups moved out of the camp the next morning. The state police and a town official were there the morning we left. All the cabins with the inadequate decks were taped off by the county inspector afterwards. The collapse occurred where the deck joined the structure not the supports, which were fine.

How scary!! Hope everyone recovers quickly.
I thought that centered to the house would look best but I've had a couple people act like it was the biggest faux pas to not center to my front door. But really, we live way out in the country and nobody can see our house from the road so I guess whatever makes us happy lol :) Thanks for your input..

I would put the posts at the corners of the awning and not have one in the middle. Unless it is necessary to hold up the awning of course.

It seems to me that the plan needs to be revised. The center bearing wall needs to be retained where possible or posts shown in the bathroom, pantry etc. As for the off-center front door, I would center it, add sidelights, add wood columns and find another location for the hall closet. It doesn't have to be next to the front door. I would try to create a more formal entrance to the dining room. I would also move the door to the bathroom to the hall out of sight of the dining room for the comfort of guests. Is a shower really needed for this floor? I don't see a guest room.

Yes, Mark, I agree. There's very sound advice in this and the other thread by the OP. It likely was not what she wanted to hear, but it was the only sound, professional advice possible. I think the professionals and some others tend to write and post without a lot of adjectives, adverbs and ifs, ands or buts. This sort of direct communication may be surprising, unexpected and/or upsetting to some posters, especially those who may have worked on their own designs and think highly of what they may have created. But with large amounts of time and money involved speaking clearly and directly is only professional and sensible.
