All cream and white quilt
The recipient said she wanted it all white, so I used WOW, COW (cream on white), solid white, and solid cream to get some variety for the traditional blocks.
I made this as a present for a dear friend who made special meals and for several months drove about 1&1/2 hours each way to bring them to us for DH when he was first ill, or sent them by FedEx when she couldn't come. Now she and her husband are going back to Japan permanently, and I wanted to show our appreciation. She and her son came to see us yesterday and I just managed to finish the quilt in time.
Wouldn't you know?--I thought I had all Tuesday to finish binding the last two sides and making the label, but had to make some special food for DH in the morning and then ended up wasting a large part of the rest of the day getting a leaky radiator in his car fixed.
I had to do a certain amount of piecing, but the back is a pretty Moda(?) batik that I had saved for something special. In the middle of the back of each block, I used a Pigma pen to write the name of each pattern on the front.
The label quotes Proverbs 17:17, about a companion sticking closer than a brother in times of distress, which is what she was for us over the past couple of years. She teared up when she read it.

All this ice cream...what to do with all the egg whites?

Angel food cake...Swan's Down Flour box 1 1/2 cups sifted flour ( sift first, then measure) 1/2 c. sifted sugar sift together 3 times 1 1/2 cups egg white at room temp 1/4 tsp salt 1 1/4 tsp cream of tartar Beat until soft peaks form....add 1 1/3 cups of sifted sugar a little at a time and beat until stiff peaks form, Add 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract and 1/2 tsp almond extract, beat to blend. Fold in the combined flour and sugar 1/4 of the amount at a time. Pour into an ungreased tube pan ( it must be a pan that has never been greased and used for rolls or something else, or the grease in the cracks of the pan will not allow the cake to "climb the pan") Place in a pre-heated 375 degree oven and bake 40 to 50 minutes. I know there will be a lot of people who will tell you that monochromatic is boring and you need a "pop" of color. I think if you want to have the serene room that you are thinking about you should not add a chair in another color. I think it will pull your eye straight to the chair. That is not what you want. When I was changing out my pillows in my family room (where I have a white couch, white rug) I was trying out fuscia pillows, and also pillows with lime green in them. I have lime green accents throughout my home. But what I found was those two options were too eye grabbing. It wasn't serene. They just didn't look like they belonged. Here are some not-so-great photos. Don't mind the crazy placement of the couch, a hole in the ceiling was being repaired. I had to do a lot of eye squinting imagining the couch back together. I ended up going with cream and gray pillows in various textures. Even though some people will call it boring..zzzzz....I like that it is more serene to the eye. Comments (7)Thank you for the quick feedback! The new roof is darker but not black. It’s very similar to the concept picture. The gutters are mostly on the sides of the house. No gutters on the front. The house itself is pretty plain which is why we are wanting to put something more elegant on the front. I’ve had a harder time figuring out the exterior remodel than the interior. Looking forward the hearing all of your advice.
