Need help with bathroom artwork?

What do you put on bathroom walls for decoration? I use to have wallpaper then a wall border but now we have plain walls. They are a taupe color but the room still seems so bare.

We just gave the master bathroom a face lift. The vanity is now a traditional dark wood with a speckled granite top. And the mirror/medicine cabinet is also dark wood frame and is almost as big as the 48" vanity. The plumbing fixtures are white with chrome faucets. The tiles are a mauve gray color.

I don't have a clue as to what to put on the walls. I fear that regular prints or photos would warp and deteriorate because of the moisture. And cloth wall hangings would have a problem too. We do have a vent fan in the bathroom but still showers generate a lot of moisture.

And I don't know what is "IN". Any suggestions?

I have paintings and framed prints in all three of mine and have never had a problem with moisture or warping. I'm not crazy about cutesy things in bathrooms (except, of course in kid's), and always appreciate seeing well thought out art in there. In my powder room I have New Mexican art. The kid's bathroom has Western art and our bathroom is tropical Mexican.
I think your bathroom sounds great and a wonderful blank canvas for some art. I'd go with a dark wood frame or frames and nice matting. Try heading over to www.art.com and see what catches your interest . . . just no fish with bubbles, ok ;^P ?

I've never had a problem with water damage to any of our bathroom art either. Surprised me - but the art still looks good after 7 years.

I don't know that this would go with your print - but BM Soft Fern is a beautiful green/grey. I have seen it painted in a beach house and I loved it. I tried to use it and in my house it looked blue/green/grey and I didn't want the blue in it so I didn't use it. The next color lighter on the sample strip is BM Silken Pine - that I have not seen but it looks pretty. BM Palladian Blue is gorgeous, that is in a friends laundry room and she has white beadboard, white cabinets and white washer/dryer - the color is beautiful against the white.

Very happy with it....the matt is a bit more yellow than i wanted so i think i might get that changed....maybe Ill leave it for a couple weeks the forget about it :) But im definitely happy with size and all! can i use this on another wall and the use blue as my accent color or do i have stick in these kinda colors now?

B if it’s sized right for the wall. C if you have another spot in the bathroom for it, or want to add it to an arrangement with the art. Sorry, A looks a bit like those things you nail to a tree at the end of your driveway to see if a car is coming. How large is the painting relative to the size of the wall space?

Hi Claire, I have a framed Hmong embroidery and a paper collage mixed media piece in my bathroom. My husband has a giant vintage poster in his. It's not the best idea to hang a work on paper in the paper but if the bathroom shower isn't being run continuously, it's probably not an issue. Of course, the best would be paint on canvas which wouldn't be as subject to humidity. Obviously, if you are hanging a work on paper make sure it is under glass.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Nice to know that about print artwork. I always had wallpaper so had nothing else on the walls.

I am looking into Ceramic Tile Art I saw on ebay. These are tiles that are like a painting that you can frame. I thought those would be nice in a bathroom and stand up to anything.

I'll second what everyone says about framed art faring just fine in a bathroom. A proper framing job probably helps, as does a good ventilation fan. I have some paint-by-number scenes of Vermont I picked up at a flea market a few years back in one of my bathrooms. Cute, kitchy and impervious to steam it seems.
