Pillar candles

I have 2 large glass vessels on my mantel.
I would like to burn pillar candles in them occasionally.
After a fair amount of searching, I have determined I do not like any of the scented ones I have found.
Can anyone steer me toward an ivory colored 3x7 ish pillar candle that is either unscented or has a pleasant, subtle scent.

I just ordered some pillars from Amazon, but they're scented. I was wondering though, is it hard to clean the glass vessel once the candle has melted? I love the bell shaped jars, but I'm afraid to light a candle in them because of a possible permanent mess. lol

There's always the LED pillars. Some of them have great reviews, which I thought about buying in case we lose power due to storms.

I buy all my candles from Bluecorn Naturals. They're pure beeswax and unscented.

I believe they have an Amazon storefront as well.

Forty candles! Wow! That was probably fine in the 18th and 19th centuries when homes and concert halls were wide open and drafty. But in a well sealed 21st century home, it could mean significant odor, degradation of the air quality in the room, and soot stains on the ceiling. Part of the problem is that today's candles often aren't very good. At least around here, most of the big candles I find are either one-of-a-kind hand-made items, or else they're cheap imports, usually from China. The latter often don't burn well (lousy wicks) or cleanly (impure wax). The former are quite pricey and sometimes don't burn much cleaner. With that caveat out of the way, it looks like a pretty simple chandelier to make. If you don't have the tools and/or time, I'd suggest visiting a renaissance fair or craft festival in your area, and making contact with an ironworker who accepts commissions. Hope this helps!

It doesn't matter if the candle is rolled or poured. The wick is way too small. It is unable to "soak up" and burn off the amount of wax being melted, so therefore it drips, or in some cases, the flame drowns in the melted wax. Keep in mind, because of the air spaces in rolled candles, they burn hotter and faster, and therefore require a larger wick, than the equivalent size solid candle.

Hi okmoreh, I just bought some pillar candles on my way home from work. I have 3 stands that vary in height and I like to get my candles the same size. If I have stands that are the same size I like to vary my candle height. For yours I think a couple of 3 to 4 inch pillars would look good. Not too tall since your stands are pretty tall. Since you said you don't want to accent the green, I think some medium blue candles would look good there. I also think a creamy tan color would look fine. I wouldn't go too light with the candles, but try to stay about the same depth of color as the stand. That's my 2 cents worth. Show us a pic farther back so we can see them in the room when you choose :-) Mimi

I buy plain ivory, unscented pillars at Bed Bath & Beyond. Not sure what sizes they carry though.

Since it's on your mantel and the flame won't be visible, I would get the battery operated ones with the wax enclosure.

You could also switch to the battery-operated Luminara candles. I'm in love with them as they look so much like real candles when they are "lit." I think most of them are a little larger diameter than three inches, though.

The link below is to a Pinterest page that has several videos showing the Luminara candles. I buy mine from QVC as they seem to have the best price even with shipping and handling fees. Look for the ones that run on C or D batteries. The ones that use AA batteries run for a very short time before needing new batteries.

I found the battery powered wax red ones at Pottery Barn at Christmas and they were on sale. They looked really good and even had a timer feature (optional) that would automatically turn off in case you forgot. I thought they looked realistic.

For cleaning, I stick the jars in the freezer. Once the wax freezes, it easily comes off.

I do not burn candles any more. We had dark spaces on our ceiling and walls before we re-painted and I have attributed that to candles and oil lamps that we burned for ambience, only. Now and years later, I have the oil lamps ready to go if necessary, but no more candles for me. I use battery operated only and they have the same ambience as live candles (battery-timed are even better).
