I must be doing something right...

we just completed our annual reviews at the company I work for. Most of the company has reviews at the same time every year.

Given the economy and all, I wasn't expecting that much of a raise.

It actually turned out to be 5%, which was much higher than I was expecting.

If you don't need the whole of the increase ...

... the food bank and some other agencies that help folks in trouble can use some of it.

There are quite a few in trouble, these days ...

... and even if much of the trouble, for quite a few of them, is of their own making, for not having set aside some emergency money when things were going well ...

... none the less, they're hurting now.

And will probably continue to do so, for a while, as I think that this recession isn't going to blow over quickly.

A number of employment positions that have been lost recently ... are gone for good, I thinnk.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, eh? A lot depends on how you start out. When you use a plastic tray with 64 little cells that hold about a tablespoonful of potting soil, you have to deal with transplanting. If you start with little pots, they can be a perfectly OK place for a plantlet to stay until it's time to move it out into the garden. A lot also depends on what you're growing. Some perennial and shrub seeds can be tricky to get going and require a cold period followed by warm soil. A heat mat is useful if the room where your trays/pots are is cold, but lots of people just use the top of the fridge or the clothes dryer for some extra warmth. I don't fertilize either, but the potting soil I use has some fert already in it. I think if what you're doing is working, just keep doing it.

Chris ~ I can sense your excitement all the way down here in s.e. FL. We saw a hummer or two many years ago, and finally this spring we saw some more and I got a picture from inside, zoomed in. Not a very good picture, but I was thrilled to have it. I would be washing dishes when I would see it between 9-10 each morning going to a certain bush, Hamelia patens Common Names: firebush, scarlet bush, hummingbird bush Family: Rubiaceae (madder Family) which grows in zones 8-11. The butterflies also love this bush. I'm looking forward to this fall through spring when the hummers will be visiting us again. Enjoy those flying jewels, they are a real treat. Good job karma! I'm proud of you too! Isn't it funny how gardening gives you little "boosts" every now and then? Just when you think nothing's ever going to grow the way you want or bloom when you want...something great happens! GGG -- Me too. I collected grounds all year last year, and they really heated up my compost pile! But, I learned my lesson about the coffee filters. I was told they'd break down easily too, but they don't seem to in my pile. I'm not going to use them this year. I guess if I cut them all up into little pieces they might break down better, but not sure I have the time. We drink a LOT of coffee! LOL

That's great news, Myfampg. And I'm sure mama is beautiful as well. :) That's great you are trying to instill a sense of confidence in your daughter. I'm mixed black and white, and my daughters' father is black. Both of my girls have tan skin and curly black hair, but sometimes my D6 tells me what she wishes she was white and wishes she had "white hair". I think because she goes to a school where a lot of the kids are white so that's what she sees. I have to tell her how beautiful her tan skin is and how beautiful her long, curly, black hair is. Lately she hasn't said anything about it, but your post reminds me I need to remind my girls how beautiful they are. Glad to hear she doing better with handling SM. It's great that DS feels so close to DD. Like you say, enjoy it while it lasts, after a while she'll probably be locking him out her room, LOL! And I like idea of each of the kids having one on one time with DH, kills two birds with one stone. :)

Good for you Mike. If you had told them to ask us what youe deserved we would have told them 10 to 15% at this time, only because we don't want you or us to appear greedy. :)

While I have your attention, do you have any pictures of Mason to share?
