I built fences and decks in the MD/VA/DC area back in the 80's and our basic (#2 py, #1 pt decking) was around $12-15 sqft. The caveat is that the estimate can be highly site specific: access, finished height, size, materials etc. Very few EVER turned out "standard". Customers always wanted: benches, planters, curved sections, cedar decking, electrical outlets ... you get the picture. Please make sure you see and talk with the contractors past customers, both recent (currrent year) and several 2-3year old clients. Our crews changed from year-to-year. They should be licensed/bonded/insured. Bob

I cross-posted this at Building a Home and Remodeling but I know there are a lot of Wisconsinites at this forum, too. Maybe I'll do Bathrooms as well. We are putting together the bidder list for our two-story kitchen/family/master/baths addition and I'm hoping some of the folks here can give me contractor recommendations for our area in southern Wisconsin, both good and bad. Don't be afraid to just email me through GW with the bad if you'd rather not post names. We'll need everything a new home needs -- from excavation and concrete, framing, insulating, roofing, masonry, tiling, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, cabinetry and a deck. This the second home we've owned in the area in ten years, so we have worked with some of the speciality trades, but we want to cast the net widely for a larger project like this. TIA!
