??help decide oakcab uba tuba, or green butterfly go w fire ice
Comments (12)uba tuba, sure price is great within the first couple of levels we'd want to stay but... really just want something not too fancy for my house, I also like st celia too but want something w a little more contrast to my cabinets. My cabinets have alot a graining in them and don't want counters too busy either. It makes me a little more hesistant about the verde butterfly b/c it seems to have a more of a larger pattern but like i said hubby seems to like them better and i'm just confused wish i had a magic wand ii just want it to be pretty not regret or want to change something immediatly. All the granite people seem to be trying to steer me away from uba tuba too, i think they burnt out on seeing it so much a few years ago when they installed it so often. Those three I mentioned along with gallio something I did like but im just not crazy about anything else. I'm not a fancy girl, just a country farm girl from georgia so I tend to be attracted to the more plan granites I guess...?? But I love the brick fire and ice look for the backsplash and want it to match it too. thanks for all of your help...See MoreVerde Butterfly- Questions for those who have it
Comments (9)I have just installed verde butterfly in my major kitchen remodel and everyone including all my subs has commented on how beautiful my kitchen turned out. I have KraftMaid cabinets in autumn blush which are in between a light and dark finish and this was the only granite that I fell in love with the moment I saw it. It just tied the whole room together while giving it some contrast. As far as keeping it clean, I have not noticed any finger prints whatsoever, but I do see water standing where I have splashed which is no different than any other counter material I have had in the past. The fabricator is giving you a snow job, get another one. There are alot of so called fabricators out there that do not know what they are doing. I suspect he wants you to buy a more costly piece of granite, as times are getting tougher for people. I love love love mine. I say go for it!...See MoreSeal Verde Peacock?
Comments (8)jb1176 is right, if the surface has a clear, bright and shiney, leave it alone and do nothing. In regards to staining, many granites stain and it's good to test, however again as jb1176 suggests, the Peacock, Butterfly, Uba Tuba and Laberador are pretty much immune to staining. These are some of the most durable granites available and from what I've read and experienced so far, they don't stain. That said, pro's in the forum have warned about leaving butter or any type of oils on the counter for a long time, as it may absorb into the stone. In regards to fissures, I personally have not yet experienced a problem with them, but all slabs are unique so...who knows? Our biggest problem so far with the Peacock as been that it seems like the cutout at the sink is very sensative, and not chip resistent. My DH chipped it while rinsing out a beer bottle. It slipped through his fingers and bounced of the edge leaving a tiny chip. I was heart broken...but what can you do?...See MoreWould you hone uba tuba?
Comments (6)Personally, I don't like it...but that's my personal opinion (I'm getting polished AB Premium...not honed or antiqued.) I second EastSider's comment about soapstone...but soapstone will also show "grease" marks, at least initially...unless you keep it oiled. But, soapstone is virtually indestructible stain/etching/etc-wise. Yes, it does scratch fairly easily, but scratches (1) usually disappear with oiling and (2) they're easily sanded out. I so wanted soapstone (black venatta...black w/white veins), but my DH doesn't like it at all and it cost more than granite in our area. If you're worried about maintenance, I would probably stick w/polished...JMHO!...See Moreamicus
