That is one bizarre fabricator. Aside from it being a beautiful granite, I do not understand him trying to talk you out of it. I coudl see if he said that it was problematic with wear or something, but ot say it would overpower the room? Just sounds most strange.

There are many on this board who have verde butterfly. I would go the finished kitchens blog, look up the VB people and send them an email. Many people are happy to talk about aspects of their kitchens, but don't visit the boards as often since their projects are completed. You may get a better response that way. (I have in the past)

I have Verde Butterfly and LOVE the way it looks in my kitchen! I do not think it overpowers my kitchen at all, but actually pulls the whole look together. It does require daily cleaning, as you can see fingerprints and water marks on it otherwise, but I like knowing when it is clean, so this doesn't bother me. It does sometimes have fissures in it (I have a few, one which is actually rather long) but I LOVE it nonetheless. Here is a picture:

I have just installed verde butterfly in my major kitchen remodel and everyone including all my subs has commented on how beautiful my kitchen turned out. I have KraftMaid cabinets in autumn blush which are in between a light and dark finish and this was the only granite that I fell in love with the moment I saw it. It just tied the whole room together while giving it some contrast. As far as keeping it clean, I have not noticed any finger prints whatsoever, but I do see water standing where I have splashed which is no different than any other counter material I have had in the past. The fabricator is giving you a snow job, get another one. There are alot of so called fabricators out there that do not know what they are doing. I suspect he wants you to buy a more costly piece of granite, as times are getting tougher for people. I love love love mine. I say go for it!

Oh, for heavens sake!! What a weird thing to say! Just look at how pretty and not overpowering it is in Socal's kitchen above. If you want overpowering, try something like Black Mosaic Gold :) Actually, I think Chipshot is using some and I bet it'll look great.

I know someone with a large swath of it running in a vein through a red granite so that the countertop looks like a creekbottom. That one really does dominate the whole kitchen. It's built in "clutter" and the countertops look bad with anything on them. But then this person is a very tidy soul :) And the river looks fabulous!! It's functional art.

Maybe your fabricator just doesn't like dark? Such a weird thing to say....

He should not be expressing his personal tastes, and that is what he did. My installer said something similar to me. He asked which granite I was going with. I told him Cashmire Gold, and he said "oh good, I'm glad you aren't going with a black. Black makes a kitchen look so small". I totally disagree with that statement, but he's entitled to his own opinion. I wasn't doing black, so no discussion was needed.

Witmom, I am so glad you posted this question....my husband and I just chose this same granite 2 days ago! Our cabinets will be painted white like Socalthreems, so it was great to see her picture. I am hoping to find out what she is using on her floor....love it, and that is our next major decision. We originally had chosen a new Silestone color (Bamboo), and had ordered 4 samples to get a better idea of what the finished project would look like. Although the Silestone was beautiful, we realized (in time, thank goodness) that there would not be enough contrast for the look we wanted to achieve.....so we switched to the butterfly granite. Anyway, good luck with your project. I hope to see your finished kitchen in the blog.....

I have a dark green granite with white cabinets and like it very much. I am not sure of the name, but it may be Butterfly. I am pretty sure it isn't UbaTuba.
