Keep in mind the failing motor is not a Pentair product. It belongs to Magnatek (AO SMITH). There were a lot of front bearing failures on WhisperFlo's around that timeframe. Most of those motors failed inside of 14 months on commercial settings and a bit longer on residential. All out of warranty if commercial and maybe covered for original owners under builder extended warranty. What model pump? If you can get a guy to install online product and stand behind it, you in good shape. I won't when it's sold for wholesale cost. Service comes with a fair price and service means that when your system fails on a Friday at noon right before your party the next day, we'll be there to repair it or replace it and deal with the bad part later. You can't get that with a website that deals this way. The IC is a good product but does have some rate of failure that is a bit more than I care see. I have about 2 in 25 have some sort of issue. The issue is always solved through warranty but it does give some concern. The failure rate is far less than AquaRite though. As for online parts, who knows. Support your local business. They need it more and will be there to handle any issues with the part, especially electronics. Keep in mind, we deal with plastics and resins and that cost is oil driven. Parts are insanely high right now.

my husband just took our motor apart on Tuesday and delivered it to the pool place where they installed a new motor and seals (gave him the one to put in place where it went back together).... central MA area for a sta-rite dura glass... was ~$200 for the new motor and them doing the work... except for detaching/attaching... he put it back together this afternoon.... very quiet now... who knew that when it was getting loud towards the end of last summer that meant it was dying????

Ah, I just asked that very question on other post...sorry about redundancy. BTW, there are also two long screws (obviously mounting screws, about 4" long) which aren't connected to anything. Are these just universals that aren't needed for this application? Thanks for responses... Ralph

Recently I replaced the pump motor on my sprinkler system. I got everything changed over, using the old pump housing and just replacing the motor. First mistake, I should have overhauled the pump housing. Next step, I ordered an overhaul kit and replaced all interior parts of the pump housing. I got everything back together, primed the pump, turned it on, but it wouldn't pump. The impeller spun inside the housing but no water was pumped out and no water was sucked in from the well. After about five minutes of this, the pump motor shut off. I pulled the motor and noticed one of the wires seemed loose. I tightened the wire. Still nothing. I then noticed the little knob to switch between 230V and 115V. I had it on 230V instead of 115. At this point I checked and there is power at both the pump switch and at the pump motor. I waited more than enough time for the thermal overload protector to have shut off. The impeller turns, so I know the pump itself is okay. I shorted the capacitor, still nothing. I have no idea what I am doing wrong or not doing, and it infuriates me bec I hate having to hire someone to do something I should know how to do. Does anyone on this forum know what I am doing wrong or what could have caused this? Please help! Thank you!!
