Water Temp Sensor?

Is there a less expensive alternative to replace my 10K TEMPERATURE SENSOR (Formerly TS5T) in my intellitouch system? The outside air temp sensor has worked perfect the whole time but this is the 3rd time I've had to replace the water temp sensor. They seem to be running around $35-50. Anyone know of an alternative?

Call pentair, they have had a few problems with their newer temperature sensors.

The best thing you can do is find someone with a 4-5 year old one, until 3 years ago they seemed to last forever.

Thanks so much, dadoes! There didn't appear to be any fault code at level 3. On level 4 the 4th and 8th lights were on before I pushed the tub, nothing else happened when I pushed it. I did notice that if I changed levels and came back to 4, sometimes it was just the 4th and 8th lights on, and other times it was the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th. Not sure what that's about. I did have bedding and towels in in the load when it went out....things that are commonly unbalanced. I am not sure which is the '6 minute light' but if it is the 4th, it sounds like I need an OOB switch. If you have more to add, please do! If not, thanks SO much for your help!!!

I am not sure I follow how you are testing the temperature sensor. Does this thermostat display the outside temperature and if it does is it correct? Have you tried measuring the resistance of the sensor at various temperatures and see if it flows the temperature chart. Put the sensor in the refrigerator or freezer and see if it tracks. Do this with the old sensor also. You can't measure the resistance of the sensor when it is connected to the thermostat. If the thermostat is powered any current in the circuit may produce incorrect resistance readings. If it is not powered then anything in connected in parallel with the sensor will change the resistance value. You may have a resistive short between the the S1 and S2 wire connections. This resistance would lower the resistance readings of the sensor and cause errors in some temperature ranges. If you really want to test the wires and sensor you going to have to isolate them from the thermostat. Check to see if the thermostat is getting 24 volts between the R and common connection. Check the voltages across the S1 and S2 and see if you get the DC values listed in the document. This is sounds like a thermostat problem but do as much checking as you can before investing in a new one.

Hi Fletch58, We had one go bad in our pool (only 2 years old). It was showing 110 F when the pool water was 50. They apparently go bad frequently. We bought a new on online for $40 or so, and it was easy to install. Good luck! "A pool is a hole in your back yard into which you throw..."
