Any reason not to elevate filter to line up with pump discharge?

I'm making plans to install a new Intelliflo VS and am also replacing most of the pad piping and also using a new Hayward cartridge filter. Because space is somewhat tight and because I want to minimize changes of pipe direction I'm wondering if there is any reason to not elevate the filter so that the inlet of the filter is at the same elevation as the level of the discharge from the pump (say, on concrete blocks). This would also reduce the bends in the pipe on the outlet side of the filter. Since I am trying to make things as efficient as possible, would the increased head from the filter being about a foot higher than it would otherwise be offset the reduction in friction from the extra bends?

Thanks.
