Is this peculiar or not?

Quite a few times, and more in the last few days, in my " Junk" folder are emails that say they come from my exact email address. Some are advertising designer shoes and others are advertising those little blue pills recommended for men. How could this be? Is there anything I can do about it? My email address is quite unique so not very liable for someone else to have exactly the same thing. I use Outlook Express and have a folder that all bulk email goes into. This is where they are all going. It isn't so bad if all my friends are getting emails that they think are from me, that are advertising shoes and purses but I'm not keen to have people think I'm involved with the pharmecuticals advertised. Any suggesstions?

I get the all the time in my business email. I never open them even though our server protects our computer from virus'

I personally are not fond of pawn shops. I think they tend to take advantage of people. I don't mean in every case... just in general. The people who sell these items to pawn shops are quite often desperate and get very little from what they sell... Not to mention that, yes, the items always have the possiblilty of having been stolen. The first thing most folks around here do after a theft, is check all the pawn shops. That can happen on ebay as well of course, but pawn shops are faster and more convienient for most theives. I also think that in the case of items that are held until the owner buys them back are sold back at a greatly increased price. I know they have to make some profit, I just don't agree with this practice. But then, I also feel rather badly towards rental places that sell/rent household items at greatly inflated prices that are up to 3 or 4 times the real cost. I feel these people take advantage of people with little money, give them pretty poor merchandise (have you seen how poor the quality of furniture usually is?)and basically rip them off. I don't frequent either type of store. We generally find excellent tools at local auctions (the ones held at peoples homes), at garage sales, and online. The rest we buy new. In fact, most of our tools were bought at an auction from the guy we bought our property from. We got things like a drill press, two industrial size welders, a huge air compressor, a WALL of hammers and many other great items at REALLY low prices. He even had a thing that machined custom parts... but we had spent a lot and had no real need for it... so we let it go. I just wish he had had a tractor we could have bought. Still looking for a good one we can afford. sigh.

Some interesting questions which I'm afraid I can't answer with any authority. Other than to suggest that having seen mature specimens in the countryside, covering old dead trees, the growth appears to naturally be brought downwards by gravity. Without support, the segments can grow outward only so far before they turn earthwards. I would also guess that allows a better prospects of survival, if the fruit fall near the base of the parent plant, they will at least have that to climb. I've often seen sections of plants anchored higher up having no ground contact and surviving only with those aerial roots having found contact with decaying bark etc. So I guess the question of how much nutrients those aerial roots take simply "depends" on the growth circumstances as I believe they are formed to facilitate growth first rather than for feeding. However a foliar spray would seem appropriate. As to forcing, I don;t know. The growth style seems to facilitate (a) ease of maintenance and fertilizing (b) ease of collection - and maybe they hand pollinate, who knows and (c) allows good all-round sun exposure. Everything you write evokes memories. In Sweden the saying to ward off evil is "pepper, pepper, touch wood" so I don't thing the touch wood bit could be Celtic in origin. When I was in India in 67-68, at international work camps, tiffin was the afternoon tea break with some savoury snack. But I think I heard the expression only in Delhi, not in other parts of India. In my childhood home (long ago now!) all meals were served at table in the kitchen and meal times were very strict and all families in the neighbourhood kept the same times. It was very convenient for children, all went in to eat at the same time so there were never any arguments. I lived on the Baltic coast so we had fish at least five times a week when in season, for lunch or dinner. We bought the fish from a fisherman who came round early in the morning, first on his bike with the icebox at the back, later with his car. There was only one main course and dessert, a cooked dessert every day. My mother would sometimes make small amounts of icecream, a rare treat. She made everything from scratch. I don't remember any store bought food or canned food. The first frozen foods in the late 50'ies were peas, spinach and fish filets. My mother never liked to cook although she had to. I started cooking when I was 14, the few things mother would let me cook. The very first thing I did was to cure a large fresh ham when mother was in hospital before Christmas that year. We usually got a cured ham for Christmas but that year father had bought a fresh ham from a farmer and took for granted that I would know how to make the brine.

I too get them, but I just hit spam and then delete. They do stop. Then come back for awhile. Main thing is not to open them.

I have one email address on Yahoo but it is not my main one. I never have a problem there. Their system of handling spam is wonderful.

I'm glad you posted this, because the same thing has happened to me this past week, with three spam e-mails sent to me thaat look like they are from my own address (aol)

The link from kayjones is helpful for figuring out where it came from and reporting it. I will try that.

Here's how I handle spam - I don't download it to my computer. After spam became so prevalant, I began to log into my email account on my ISP's server and examime my mail there. Anything thats obviously spam never gets opened; It gets dumped into the spam box at the ISP. I also look into the spam box at least once a day because the spam filter at my ISP will at times put legitmate mail in the spam box - be on the lookout for this if you have the spam filter turned on. The valid messages are moved to my Inbox, again at the ISP. The spam box gets dumped, and I review my legitimate mail while logged in at the ISP becasue soem messages do not warrant saving to my computer, but can be replied to while at the ISP.

Typically, I get 20 messages in a day, and after the culling has been done, I'll have about two to download to my email utility on my personal computer. The reduces the amount of junk to download to my computer and saves a lot of periodic clean-up of my email files.

If you make a misstep and open one of those body parts enhancements ads, or a "dating service", you can expect a bunch more over the next few weeks on the same and related subjects. These will die out eventually if you do not open any of these.

If you discover a message that is obvously "phishing", copy the entire message including the header and email it to the "abuse" page of your ISP and complain about it. (Copy by highlighting the message and press contol-C to copy to the clipbaord - in Windows. To copy the contents of the clipboard into a mail text page of word processor, position the cursor, and press control-V.)

I got two of them, so glad to hear I am not alone. Altho I have been told by family that are in network security that your Email address has been stolen to send lots of spam, and its a coincidence that you got one of them. when you receive these long patriotic or "inspirational" Emails that are sent to a couple hundred people and forwarded around, that list of people is taken and used for Spam. They told me that some of the Emails you see that show for instance that cell phones blow up and have grisley photos of the damage are a fake and done to gather Email addresses. Apparently people always forward something like that to everyone they know.,
