Holiday plans?

Here's hoping everyone has a safe, healthy holiday...I'm off for a short trip to West Point to visit with my DGD's boyfriend...What better place to spend the 4th, surrounded by thousands of handsome cadets. I might be old, but I sure can enjoy the scenery. Enjoy the day, everyone!

haha..Dorothy, I remember your account of the last trip to West Point, and will be waiting for another!LOL Safe travels to all, we'll have the kids over for a BBQ, unless of course we have a 4th baby!!!! You never know what that lil one is thinking!

At 9AM, going to the local Yardagetown to enjoy their 50%-off sale. Laura, if you see this and are interested, it's the one on 3rd Ave., between J & K, and the sale is only on till noon. (If anyone is wondering, I have no connection with this store, except as a customer.) Last Saturday I finally found a fabric there that I think would be good for my first stack 'n whack. Hope it's still there tomorrow and there's enough of it left! The rest of the day, I'll be working a bit on the "relaxing corner" I have started paving in the garden and sewing on a quilt someone ordered.

Jessy, we usually camp near Furnace Creek Ranch, and so we wanted to try a slightly different location, although Furnace Creek is very convenient to the Badlands, Zabriski Point, and Artists' Drive. Stovepipe Wells is closer to Ubehebe Crater and the Racetrack, and I want to go back to the racetrack, possibly at night. I forgot to check the weather, and so it's liable to be in the upper 50s while we are there, and so I will take wetsuits with me to use the swimming pool, in case it is not heated. Colleen, I did a pair of chandeliers for the Royal Palace of Indonesia, and I believe that they went into the Royal Dining Room, in case you get a chance to go there. The finish was hideous - copper plate with copper leaf details - very gaudy IMO. The lamps I did for the Emperor of Japan were much more tasteful. This was all back in the 1990s when I got to see purchase orders. Now I rarely get to find out where my designs are going, although one of my more recent chandeliers went to a royal compound in Saudi Arabia for a prince's bedroom, and I have the CAD drawings for that layout, which I almost never get to see. I have several designs in Las Vegas hotels as well and one hotel in Vancouver, unless they have been replaced. Lars

My first Christmas party (always too busy). So I am going to start cooking this weekend. Freezing some finger foods. I am 'surfing' like crazy to decide if i should freeze before or after cooking. This will give me time to see how things taste, how they taste after freezing and how much untried recipe yields. I am planning to serve about 20 different finger foods: Spring Rolls w/ Pepper Salsa (going to make them from scratch which I have never done before) Swedish Meatballs sausage Balls mushroom rolls Pigs 'n Blanket (my husband insists) Brie/Cranberry bites Bruschetta - tomato & ricotta salata Bruschetta - white beans & rosemary Stuffed Potatoe (sourcream & Bacon) Coriander Lime Shrimp walnut feta phyllo rolls Chicken Sates Chicken Liver Pate / melba toasts Roast Beef Sandwich // Horseradish Smoked Salmon and dill sauce cold canapes dips olives I am hoping to serve some finger sized desserts too -- cookies, mini cheese cakes and mini brownies. I am expecting about 50 people. I would like everyone to leave with a small gift but I cant figure out what to do with that either -- maybe a tree ornament

I don't know... I must be the only one that likes doing odd things in bed - LOL. But if there was something that I really didn't want to do, I'm not sure a holiday or birthday is going to make me do it. I think your husband is probably joking around in a way seeing how far he can push you. Really, he can't think Green Peace Day and Doris Day's B-day are Holidays. Kudos to him for trying, though. I really can't imagine making my partner do something they don't want to do. I guess without knowing the exact specifics it's hard to know if it's just more along the lines of being too much effort...(like dressing up in maid outfits and wigs) or if it's really participating in something you don't like. If it's just a too much effort thing, yes you can compromise and do Holidays.. but I'd define them the same way the federal government and banks define them. If it's something you really don't like or want to do, then I'd think twice about doing it at all. Then again, it's hard to really give an opinion without knowing what you are talking about. I have to say, and this is not to start a new topic or argument... but sex and foreplay should be fun. I find people with hangups sometimes need to work on finding out why they think of sex or certain sexual acts as dirty. Granted, of course, some will cross the line. But I never really did understand people's adversion to some sexual acts. Maybe a sex therapist who could explore why you don't like the acts or even help you change your mind about how you view them would be the best route. Again, it's hard to tell without knowing exactly what you don't want to participate in. But, generally wouldn't it be great if you really did like to participate in the same stuff your husband did?

Just keep it tactful (to avoid hurt feelings) and honest when Dad calls about it again...thank him for the invitation to be included at Sm's family's get-together, then politely refuse. Keep it plain and simple. Christmas Eve, church and Mom is your personal long standing tradition. Something you feel is very important to both your mother and you. No need to feel guilty and/or have to try and justify your feelings/actions in maintaining your Christmas Eve tradition. You could offer up a possible other afternoon to celebrate Christmas with your father if there is a day that works better for him. If that's not an option for him, not your problem. There are 365 days in a year. If SM feels it's important enough to her to have a family gathering including both daughters together, she has 364 other choices. I'm sorry that SSis feels since Gma passed there is no reason to carry on a Christmas Day tradition. Perhaps the cease even makes sense to Dad/SM ect, but what they are planning aka trying to push onto you does not 'work' for you and your traditions. It's just as simple as that. You don't intend to change your Christmas Eve (even if it means no Christmas Day with Dad, be prepared that they may do SM's family on the Eve and choose to do nothing on the Day) and you don't intend to be guilted and/or pressured for the next four months over it. Dad can hand SM a tissue for her tears. SM's upset has little to nothing to do with anything you have said or done. It's her daughter who has chosen to alter whatever tradition was in her household.

I plan on finishing my stack and whack borders and working on my 4th of July swap blocks think I have an idea for them. But if DD#2 shows up it will all be put aside for wedding planning... I think DH has to work so should be a quiet day... grace

Not really sure yet, but my 16 y.o. SIL is here visiting for the week! The only thing that is certain is that we're going to see the Transformers movie at the Alamo Drafthouse...

I'll probably make a few more book bags for the Haiti school my DD's church plans to start, and also look thru my closet and seriously consider what I'm going to pack for my 2 to 3 month stay up north. DD told me to bring my passport! Yeah, right!!!!!

I'm going to paint my sewing room....again. I just can't find a color I like. Maybe this is the right one.

We've been gone the last 2-1/2 weeks and another trip coming up on the 18th ... guess we'll try to get some chores done early. The house painters showed up this morning and we still haven't picked the color ... good thing they are caulking, scraping & power washing first!!! We do need to trim back some of the bushes so they can find the house!

One of my teaching partners is having a bbq so we'll head there in the afternoon -her DH owns an Italian restaurant so the food will be fabulous! Now to come up with a side dish ...
