Not temperature, but every time I go do the doctor they ask me if my blood pressure "is always this low". Must be. You've been my doctor for 15 years now and you ask me the same question every time I come in.

My normal temperature is 96. something...don't remember what. It's been that way as far back as I remember.

I run a low temperature but it is because I am hypothyroid. Even when I am on synthyroid .25mcg (Please be kind,and don't correct me, if I have the amount wrong, I am not wheeling down the hall to look up the prescription) My tsh, when dr. checks it comes out o.k. but I still run a low temperature.

Yes, I have always had an abnormally low body temperature reading. I do not have any of the symptoms of hypothyroidism though.

A couple years ago during a routine physical when my temperature was taken it was 96° and the nurse commented "Oh, it's so low but it's probably because you just came in from outside." OMG. How do these people manage to graduate from school?!?

My normal temp. (oral) is 97.3.
Quite a few years ago I read in a nursing journal the normal body temp usually is around 97.0- 98.0. The original study done many, many, many years ago was done incorrectly.
Also, people with lung disease usually don't run a fever even when ill. I don't remember the reason because it has been so long ago.

My second daughter always runs a low temp...

And she always runs a low sugar count too.

Janie, I have that anemia too... it is very common in people with Hashimotos (the autoimmune form of Hypothyroidism). Have your doctor check your thyroid antibodies. All my other thyroid tests were within range, sometimes just the antibodies are off.

BTW - you are taking monthly injections of Vit. B right?

My normal temp has always been 97.4. The 98.6 "normal" temp is an average (think bell curve.) If I hit 98.6, I'd have a significant fever. Same thing with cholesterol. My DH's has always run higher than "normal." His Mom & 2 older sisters, also. All 4 have always eaten sensibly (low sat./trans fat,) none is/was overweight, etc. None has had heart disease (Mon, who got sucked into that whole oat bran to lower your cholesteral nonsense in the 80's, died from Alzheimer's @88.) Yet, we have been penalized on his life insurance for 30 yrs. b/c his cholesterol is "high." When are the Docs gonna realize we have individual bodies and don't always fit ino their "normal" parameters? (I'm not even gonna get into my being lactose intolerant & hypoglycemic. . . .) My temperature runs very low and I am Hyperthyroid.
If you Doctor checks your TSH and says it's normal that isn't enough. Have him also check your Free T-4 and Free T-3. Most Hypothyroid patients are too low on T-3.

I do have a low thyroid and take one tablet a day of generic for Synthroid. I have been on it a few years. I had to keep telling the doctor to check my thyroid. They did and I did not get any report back from them. Time went on and I told them check my thyroid as I just knew I had a low thyroid and this time I got a report back.

Before menopause normal temp for me was 98.6; post-menopause it's 97.8.

I agree that the whole whoop-la over cholesterol has gotten out of hand. Every individual DOES have a set-point and that needs to be considered. Seems to me too many Americans are taking too many drugs and getting too many tests over cholesterol -- and lots of other hyped 'conditions'.

My DHDL is 76; DLDL is 75. Triglyceride is 77; cholesterol is 174.

I'm curious about the thyroid comments posted in this thread. My last test showed a T Uptake of 43.1, but my MD said, "Nevermind." The T4 was 6.0; FTI (T7) was 2.59; TSH was 1.3. Comments?

Chisue, you can have normal results for the tests you had but still be Hypothyroid.

My tests were all normal except for the antibody tests. I strongly suggest you ask for the thyroid antibody tests if you are having Hypothyroid symptoms.

Oh good grief, I grew up in Minnesota fer cryin' out loud, OF COURSE I have a low body temperature!

Dotmom, I look at it this way, I have a budget of temperature and I just have to spread it out more than a lot of people.... that would make it lower! :)

Back in my teens when I broke my hip I drove them crazy in the hospital. They couldn't believe my temp could be so low. "Must be a bad thermometer!" and they'd run off and get another. I had 8 or 10 thermometers lined up there. I tried telling them, but nurses don't like to listen, especially to a "kid". (And I have the utmost respect for the unheralded nurses, but there is a flaw in most.) BTW, I still have a couple of those thermometers around. Makes me laugh when I see all these people so paranoid over light bulbs having mercury in them. They don't think about thermometers, but that's a different group to offend!

Thanks, I read your entire link. It's so informative. I need to cut back on my Soy consumption. I'm still in the process of slowly increasing my T3.

lydia -- I read through the link you posted, but don't find symptoms that seem to apply to me. Was there something in my post that caused you to think I could have thyroid problems? (Is this just about the low temp? Or the high T Uptake?)

I'm not overweight, depressed, etc., etc. -- none of the symptoms listed for hypo.

My temp has always been sub-normal. For me,if its 98.6 I have a fever...

Chisue, I don't know if any of your lab results were abnormal. Different countries and different labs sometimes have different ranges. If you don't have any symptoms I'd guess you do not have a thyroid problem. I just like to let people know that they can have a normal tsh and still be hypothyroid.

yup, and can't get a good reading till night time....

It could be that the home thermometers are not as accurate, but then how do we know how accurate the Dr's and hospitals are either. The ones in the dr/hospital they stick in the ear etc. My Dr just ask how we feel etc, but does not worry. He just says everyone is different.
