More news: New stairway runner installed this morning!

We are on a roll here with some minor "spring" improvements. This morning we replaced our dark 18-year-old stair runner.

So, this is the old runner.

And I have a new computer that seems to want to post my photos sideways. I'm sorry. It always annoys me when other people do this and I need to figure out how to avoid it!

And this is the new runner.

Needess to say, no one is wearing shoes upstairs in this family. There is actually only one child who needs re-training, and he's my oldest at 21! Grr.

No ferts, Anna. Just a healthy top dressing of compost. I may hit it with some compost tea or fish emulsion if it starts looking sickly, but so far it looks really lush and healthy. I've only run the irrigation in that bed twice all year. Once back in May and just the other day. We had record rainfall in June, but temps and sun were way below average. July has been fairly warm and dry so far. If June had been warmer, to go with the rain, that critter would be over the top already. I don't know if it has a scent or not. All the other stuff that's blooming has my nose in an uproar.

Marti the plumbing must be stubbed in for a bathroom when the house is built, otherwise it is a huge expense to put in a basement bathroom. Our bathroom was actually here she the house was built. The fireplace is a ventless gas FP, we have propane has for our oven, one of the water heaters, our furnace , gas grill and three fireplaces. We did add the one in the basement, it was very easy! Thanks all for your nice comments! Cat, part of the reason I love GW I is that I get such vicarious enjoyment from real homes in styles very different from mine.... I like variety, just not in my own house, lol. They made more headway in FP wall today, very pleased. Designer and woodworker had a conversation and changed the trim around firebox opening to something simpler so we are still waiting for that.

Showing the home with new carpet is the one time you can use a runner. Too late now, but I would have fixed that shorter step before the carpet was laid. Assuming that is either attic or exterior access, the likelihood of carrying things in or out would make the uneven steps even more of an issue than other places. It could come up as an issue in your home inspection, so hang on to any carpet remnants you have.

New Cambria Quartz Install Yesterday

I’m sorry to add onto a thread with more complaints, but we are in a horrible bind with our Cambria slab order and as a result have been displaced from our home and our entire kitchen remodel delayed over a month. We’ve had to incur all costs of housing and a rental car (we are out of town), and there is still no resolution in sight. We ordered two of the Britannica Warm slabs which were due to be installed prior to Thanksgiving. They arrived and were so far apart in color that our fabricator rejected them because they’ll both be used in our kitchen. No slabs were available so new ones had to be produced with a new arrival date of 12/11 (install 12/18)...now a full month delay and we have no sinks in our house since all countertops are being replaced so we couldn’t return home. Second set of slabs arrived and SAME problem AGAIN. fabricator returned slabs and told us that Cambria’s response was “you shouldn’t order this if you require two slabs in a kitchen.” Which our developer says is crazy because our kitchen isn’t even that big! Keep in mind we are now out thousands of dollars without any compensation. Cambria is supposedly sending some new slabs now from Minnesota...but no promises and the install date is now post Christmas (12/28). We now are potentially having to pay $700 to get plywood counters and temp sinks installed just so we can get back home and kids can be home for Christmas. But then we will have to leave AGAIN for them to do the install if and only if these next slabs work. And we can’t be in the house with the workers over multiple days because my husband is a high risk patient. And since all work has been delayed due to countertops (ie plumbing, tile backsplash, etc), we are looking at an additional time we have to find (and pay for) another home. I know these are first world problems but it’s unacceptable for Cambria to not take accountability and just say “you shouldn’t order two slabs.” Even our installers are over it and asking us to consider changing countertops away from Cambria, but we spent so much time finding what we wanted and now we've gone through so much trouble we really want the vision we had and not settle. We didn’t pay for this remodel to settle. Please help. What are our options? Our fabricator is saying Cambria is just throwing up their hands. And now 20 more days before new slabs! appreciate any thoughts on how we can truly get a resolution with the product we want as well as be fairly treated regarding the costs we have incurred. Finally, I had the option to have a front-door matt made from the same carpet, but I thought it would be too light for people to wipe their feet on (though fortunately, most people use our back door). So I found a good one at O-stock with just the right colors! (It is not really this close to the stairs, but I moved it over for the pic.)

Are you taking your photos with an ipad by any chance? If so, I found that if you take the photos the 'long' way with the ipad, they will transmit sideways. You need to go into edit mode on your ipad before you upload to your post and correct (rotate) the direction. Simple as that.

Your new runner looks great! Really makes a difference. And I really love your balusters too.

Makes me want to pull the wall to wall carpet off my stairs, do hardwood, and get a runner! It looks really nice!

Sue, it looks awesome. I showed it to DH and he said we should do ours! Where did you look for it? I suppose our flooring guy would be a good start.

Well I'm embarrassed to say I didn't pay attention to the manufacturer but I probably have the info on the invoice. I will say it was far more expensive than I expected and this carpet was literally twice the price as my two "runner up" candidates. But since we had the old runner for 18 years, I figured we'll probably get our money's worth! I bought it at a local(ish) rug/carpet store in Needham, MA, called K. Powers.

I found it fascinating that the installers cut and bound the rug on site, so they had their sewing machine set up in my living room and chose the binding color here on site.

Jackson, the carpet ends just under the top edge of the upstairs hall floor. There is no carpeting upstairs.

Patty cakes, I thought I wanted an animal print, too, but when I saw the actual rug samples IRL, I didn't love them...plus I am not sure if I'm that bold. I figured for me, this light color was bold enough! It is such a change...I feel like I have a whole new foyer!
