Juparano Santa Cecelia Installation

Does anyone have this granite on their kitchen counter tops? I would like to see it installed. We are having installation next Wednesday. I have agonized over this. Is granite hard to take care of? My husband and I are neat people, children grown.I hear from some that it is easy to care for and along comes someone who has it that tells me you need to keep everything off your counters or you will damage them.I don't know who to believe. Thanks for any advice.

Juparana Santo Cecellia - aka St, Cecillia - is very easy to maintain and live with.

Your description of you and your husband sound to me like you will have
no troubles at all. Hopefully your Fabricator will seal the stone for you -
if he does - get the name and manufacturer of the sealer.

If he does not seal it, and leaves that up to you - first of all - I'd highly recommend
that you DO seal your stone.

I have had really good results with Miracle 511 Porous Plus. There is another
sealer out on the market that works just as well - and I have tested this
product and it works flawlessly too - it's made by Surface Treatment Technologies
and the two that I have tested are "SB" and "FE" - both I also highly recommend.....

Clean up spills right away, use a sealer as listed above - and...

to quote Pedro from "Napoleon Dynamite" :

Don't agonize over how difficult it is to clean. Basically the care for all stone is the same, depending on who you talk to. I have had Santa Cecelia for 6 years. I chose it because of the pattern - you don't see the dirt not even crumbs unless you stand back and look closely or swipe your hand across it and think "where did that come from". I cut on it, roll out pastry on it, even leave my tomatoes to ripen on it, place hot pans on it and no problems. Cleaning is a breeze all I do is use a spray bottle of liquid stone soap sometimes Windex or straight up denatured alcohol (that's what the granite installer told me to do). I also use a granite polish every other month. Currently, I am planning a kitchen remodel which includes reusing my granite. I will post some pic of my old kitchen with the granite for you as soon as I figure out how to upload them. After reviewing comments by other posters with granite counters you will most likely find that the solid color granite (as beautiful and glossy as it is) is difficult to care for since dirt and blemishes are more obvious. I know that you will be happy with your decision Santa Cecelia is extremely popular.

I have seen very light pieces of Creme Bordeaux and very dark pieces. There can a large range for that stone. The Santa Ceclia my local stone wharehouse has been getting has had a lot of black in it and is darker than what they used to get. Depends I guess on where they are in the quarry and the stones can change as they move through it, at least that is what the stone seller told me. I would imagine if a stone is available from different Quarries it will also depend on where they get it. The same thing with Giallo Ornamental, both it and Santa Cecelia I liked in the older samples I had seen but were not what I was looking for in the new slabs at the warehouse. If you can get the lighter slabs of Creme Bordeaux, it will be lighter than what I saw locally for Santa Cecelia. Sue

Here is a backsplash we did for a customer. FT Light Travertine with Santa Cecilia granite. Since SC comes in more gold, beige or light colors, it all depends on the slab you pick out whether it will work with certain tiles. Same with Giallo Ornamental. We have 4 samples of GO here, all with a different base color. That dang natural stone is so... natural!! :) Good luck. If I find any more examples of SC backsplash ideas, I'll let you know...

Boxer, that really is the perfect pic! You must not have been going very fast because I don't see any slobber! ;>D Kevin, I like Ubatuba. In fact, I love almost any green granite (especially Tropical Green), but it wouldn't go with the rest of the colors. Colorfast, haven't chosen yet, but I am planning to head to the granite yard this coming week. School started last week and I wanted to get the kids settled first. The kids are really pushing for a new island countertop because they don't think a different color on the side will look good. I think I can make it work though.

It looks beautiful. I love it. When we had the granite put in our bathroom the installers knocked into the drywall and put a near hole in it. Actually it is just a deep depression with the cover of the drywall torn into but we were able to fix it with DW mud. More sanding and painting but it looks great. Murphy's Law something always seem to happen. lol. But I hope your unhappiness with the installer was not too bad. I am happy you got this resolved and I really like that you have two different granites now. Everything is looking great!
