It's called putting your big girl panties on for the day. The test is so important that nothing else should matter...just keep drinking the clear liquids and you'll be fine...It's mind over matter and doing what's best for you.

I ate Jello and broth, it seems to me. When you are also drinking that stuff to clear out your insides, you are not hungry, believe me! Your attention is elsewhere!

I thought I'd be starving, but it wasn't bad. I bought a box of banana popsicles and made a couple large pans of jello (don't use red).

DH and I went out afterwards and had a big breakfast.

I think you'll do fine, I had lots of broth and various drinks and jello and did not get hunger pangs. One thing I would suggest, don't wait until evening to take the yucky stuff, start early in the afternoon. That way, you are all cleaned out by bedtime and able to get a good night's sleep without having to constantly run to the bathroom.

Just did this in March. And you just do it. It's not easy, and broth seemed to make me less hungry than juice (NOT RED...remember that NOTHING RED)...but when I'd get those hunger pains, I'd just think about the colonoscopy and scare the hunger out of me (WELL IT'S TRUE). Then once you hit that time to start drinking the stuff, and are "cleaning out", the others are so right, you don't even think about being hungry...And a hint..stay as close to the bathroom as possible.

I was NOT out for my colonoscopy, I watched it all. Interesting (okay I thought it was), I was obviously given something as I felt nothing, but I remember it all...even when the scope stopped working, the doctor using some sort of bottle brush to clean it out trying to get it working again...I could see the little brush coming through the tube on the TV...the Dr. pulling the tube out of me like a garden hose being moved from teh front to the back yard..(thank goodness no real feeling)..and the new scope being inserted. There was no biopsie's needed, so I didn't have to worry about that.

Yes the test is very important. I wish my mom's doctor would have thought so too, or she wouldn't have colon cancer spreading through her now. Mom is old school - you do what the doc tells you and now we will all pay for it.

Thanks all, and thanks for the tip of starting earlier than the instructions say (I'd read that somewhere too). Mine indicates 4:00pm for the pills and 6:00pm to begin the drink. I'll take the pills at 2:00pm; drink at 4:00.

I'm sure I'm over thinking it, and your reassurance helps.

Kathy - sorry to hear about your Mom. Shocking that your mom's doc didn't assure his patients of this important exam.

I was worried about that before my colonoscopy, too, because of my long history of low blood sugar issues. I don't eat sugar or artificial sweeteners, so Jello was out. But I wanted the protein that's in gelatin, so I dissolved plain gelatin in hot broth and sipped that. The rest of the time I drank white grape juice (or white grape/peach juice) diluted with water.

My doctor advises his patients to do the Miralax prep instead of having to drink a huge quantity of GoLytely, or whatever that stuff is called. It was easy. In fact, the whole experience was a lot easier than I had anticipated. I'm sure yours will be, too.

Mine is scheduled for Cinco de Mayo. Maybe I can find some Margarita flavored popsicles. Just kidding.

Once I had my first sip of GoLightly, I had no appetite for the rest of the day. The Go Lightly had been refrigerated and I got chills from drinking it. It was no problem not to eat that day but right after the procedure I sure was hungry. After that I went home for a nap and later went for a swim.

My doctor advised me to consider it a three day procedure. Eat lightly the first day, liquids the second (I drank a lot of broth, chicken and thai spicy broth tasted good), then the "evening' with Go Lightly. I admit only got thru half the bottle, I had such bad diarrhea I couldn't drink more. Third day, the procedure. I met the nurses and anesthesiologist, that's the last thing I remembered till I woke up. Good luck. It feels wonderful when it's over , you hear they found nothing and you don't have to do it again for 5 or ten years.

You just do it. I had to fast for 2 1/2 days because my doctor was nutso. My mother died of colon cancer when she was 58, so I knew I had to get tested. Suck it up.

Jannie beat me to my advise, which was going to be eat light the day before you go on the clear liquid diet. There will be less stuff to clean out if you know what I mean. The Thai broth is awesome, in fact I wish I had some now!

OK, all of the above, HOWEVER, do not plan to have any company or to leave the house. STAY CLOSE to the bathroom. The prep is worse than the procedure. Then it's done.....

Debi, whine, whine, and whine more. LOL, that is what I did. But, you know, in the end it wasn't so bad. Hubby had to take me out to a nice restaurant to get my system started back up afterwards. LOL

I recall sitting in the truck outside the grocery store after it was over. DH was inside buying ?? I don't know what...something I must have thought I wanted.

Well this is timely as I'm having a colonoscopy tomorrow morning. I've been limiting my food intake since mid-January so I think that helped. I am used to eating less. I don't usually eat at night but I ate a turkey sandwich before bed last night. I wasn't going to bed hungry. Today I ate sugar-free lemon jello, white cranberry juice, sodium-free chicken bouillon, and tea (I can't drink black coffee). I sucked on hard candy too. I had to drink half-lytely which was a half gallon. That is the part you should be worried about - it was nasty! Took me over two hours and I still tossed about 2/3 cup at the end. I was gagging by then. The outcome itself wasn't that bad - there wasn't much to flush out. I'm not really hungry right now and I can't sip another drop of liquid either.

Hunger wasn't a problem for me. If you don't start off eating in the morning, the hunger doesn't seem to set in.

I'm surprised that more doctors aren't prescribing the Miralax prep. No one seems to like the Go Lightly.

I had a TWO DAY clean out. Could not eat anything but liquid the first day, and added the laxatives the next. It was a nighmare, but all came out all right. (pun)

Has anyone thought of a new product ... "Go Lytely ... and Often"?
