Shameless plug for Woodzotic, please
Comments (10)My understanding of TWP (which may be incorrect) is that it is a "film forming" product, and must be stripped (either chemically or by sanding) to remove it once it has been applied. In that scenario, if I never wanted to do it again, the product would begin to deteriorate and possibly flake and I would have to go through a lot of steps to remove what was left of it. I'll admit that I'm fairly new to the board (maybe been reading posts for about a year), but I don't see a lot of plugs from Ken (hence the request for one re: Woodzotic, since there hasn't been very much information on this board about it). Everything I have heard about his Restore-a-Deck product is that it superior to much that is on the market and everybody that has used it is extrememly happy with it. I do realize that anytime a regular contributor to a board sells products that can be used by those "visiting" the board that it can create a conflict of interest ... and there is a fine line that must be walked ... but I personally haven't seen any flagrent violations by Ken (granted, I haven't read every post, and I am somewhat of a newbie). I frequently "plug" East Teak on this site, and that is because, as a customer, I had an exceptional experience with them (and George), and a) I want to reward their outstanding customer service by trying to convince other people to use them, and b) I want to help others on this board get the same level of service that I received ... especially since I heard about East Teak here. I do see a lot of positive response about RAD, and a lot of contributors pointing others to use the product, but I guess I don't see anything wrong with that if they have used the product and are pleased with its results and want to share. Anyway, like I said, a fine line (and I'm sure that the line is in different places for different people). I'm sorry that you find the board less helpful than it was (and perhaps it is, I have no basis for evaluation). I still see a lot of valuable information being passed around, but you have to analyze it based on who the poster is and what their background and experience are. Thanks, Birgit...See Moreface or blind-nail for garapa deck?
Comments (1)Nailing is a lousy way to install decking unless you are building the cheapest pressure treated deck possible for $4 a square foot. I stay away from all blind or hidden fastening systems for decks. Screwing the boards down to the joist is the best way to build a quality deck....See More2nd year garapa sealing question
Comments (4)Thanks for the reply. I will try and get some pics of the black areas if it still light enough when I get home tonight. I definitely like the color of the cedartone. Am worried that the woodrich amaretto is a bit to orange for my taste. Hard to tell from the computer monitor. We had actually bought a gallon of the Woodzotic last year anbd it was way to orange for me which is why we went with the TWP. You stated to use the brightener to scrub off the mold. Does this mean not using the cleaner at all or did you mean the whole system of cleaner and brightener. I really want it to absprb evenly since it got kind or blotchy last year. I think most of that was in areas where we had some overlap and therefore 2 coats whereas most areas only got one coat. I need to check and see how much stain I need to buy. The deck is about 800 sq ft total and I bought a 5 gallon bucket last year and I'm pretty sure I didn't have enough to do two coats. I will have to see how much is left. Can I expect to need the same amount of stain as on a new deck or less? Thanks Kristen...See MoreGarapa sealer selection
