I'm probably not the best person to advise you because I haven't actually tried it yet. But I bought a couple of her practice sheets, a number of brushes, her video on basic brush strokes, her Complete Book of One-Stroke Painting and her book on painted furniture (which is beautiful!). The one-stroke technique isn't the only one I want to learn, so I have a bunch of other books, too.

I started painting on glass last year, just doing my own thing, and from there I got interested in other kinds of decorative painting.

There's a double CD of all Dewberry's instructional videos that sells for about $25. If you have an AC Moore near you, one suggestion might be to use their weekly 40% or 50% off coupon to buy it.

If you don't get the answers you need here, there are quite a few people on the Decorative Painting forum who do one-stroke.

I am an artist,not professional by any means,but pretty good,or so I am told.One of my favorite subject is flowers.I ordered one of her tapes.I think it was Pansies? She makes it look so easy,but I have tried and tried and just can't get the "hang" of her techniques.It is just awkward.I do a much better job just doing "my thing".LOL
I think if I were ordering and wanted to learn more than just one flower I would get the 50 flowers one.

Check Walmart. Ours has a selection of single sheets (in plastic), viedos, books etc as does Hobby Lobby, JoAnns and I have even seen some items in $$ stores. Even book stores like Barnes and Noble.

I have several of her books and a video, but they are buried in the room that is going to be my craft room when I get finished with the rest of the house. I painted some sunflowers and a hummingbird using her method. The first hummingbird I did was pathetic; so was the second and third, but they got better and better until I could finally actually tell what they were. :) I also painted a mural on the wall of the room Anna used to have. It was wisteria and a picket fence. I don't remember what else was in it. It looked pretty good, but was definitely not professional looking.

I am left handed and my main problem is with leaves. The instructions are given for right handed people. The instructions say for lefties to start at the opposite end and go in the opposite direction. That makes sense, but I think I could do better if I could actually see someone do it. I wish she would make a video for lefties.

I plan to go to one of her seminars now that I'm retired. I had made reservations a few years ago, but had to cancel it because I couldn't get off from work. :(

If you are anywhere near a Michaels Craft store you can take One Stroke Painting classes. I was taking them a few years ago. I learned so much and the classes were lots of fun! I managed to even impress myself!! When I was taking the classes they were either $20 or $25 a class. Get yourself a roll of freezer paper to practise on.

I used to get her instruction sheets at the Hobby Shop here. They really are very good. I also went to a painting class by a local gal who follows her instruction. The strokes are all very simple. What is hard, is to not over work everything to death! You will learn how to use the different brushes and which strokes to use for different applications. It takes time but is lots of fun. I haven't paiinted anything lately. My girlfriends and I had a ball at classes though. You should look into it. We would buy the materials from the instructer and then she would guide us through the project and teach us what was needed to complete it.

I could watch her do that all day. Fascinating. I've done my share of oils and I can tell that would take plenty of practice and a whole lot of technique. She's does it so effortlessly. I used to love to watch Bob Ross and the old German fellow, can't think of his name off hand. They both could whip out a beautiful mountain landscape or sea scape without hardly taking a deep breath.

PBS used to have her show on Saturdays so I would tape them and watch the one of Roses over and over. Then I would practice on paper again and again. I finally got nerve enough to paint on some furniture after my DH pushed me. I haven't tried painting anything since.

Now that I have a digital camera I should take some new photos.

Dorthy that furniture is gorgeous! You really should paint some more.I haven't painted in a couple of years and need to start again.I'm a firm believer that if we don't use our God given talents we might just lose them!

beautiful work Dorothy. I'd like to take classes too. I've watched her video and used her plastic pages and still get it wrong. I think a class where someone could show me what I'm doing wrong would be very helpful.
