I believe you need a 52 inch round table

Web searching, I'm seeing cast aluminum dining sets that seat six, 60" tables. Not cheap, though ($3K - $1400). The nice thing about cast aluminum is the durability and the chairs are very light. Two years ago, when searching for cast aluminum chairs, I noticed there were deep discounts at the end of summer. Could you be patient enough to wait until late August/early September?

Found these chairs online at Ikea and I'm loving the look and that they're stackable. The table isn't what I'm after but the chairs may work with something else....if i can find it.

This may not be what you had in mind...but if you have a costco near, they have a commercial aluminum round glass top table that looks big enough to seat six. The aluminum would be light enough to move a chair in and out of. Just a thought in case you wanted to go see it.

kmcg I do have a Costco and looked there a couple of weeks ago but at that time I was only browsing, not REALLY looking. Online they have nothing that interests me - maybe different stock in store, though.

You lost a lampshade?

I understand how a person could lose a lampshade!
Or any other durn thing, for that matter.
But I digress...
Do you need to be able to move the table around, or could you use something heavy? Do you need an umbrella? If not, I think the Ikea chairs would look great with a table made from some sort of concrete base and a round glass top. Or with an iron base and a glass or concrete top. Round tables on a pedestal are so flexible when you are seating a variable number of people. I once put one together from a section of a huge tree trunk one of my neighbors had to remove...the tree guys sliced me a piece the right height, and it looked fantastic.

Lori I bought a couple of adirondack chairs at World Market at the end of season last year - they do have some in really cute colors so check there. We keep them in the yard but Keith doesn't think they're very comfortable so I kinda have to drag him out there to sit with me :-/

I have some stackable chairs in aluminum/wicker look, but plastic that I love. They are comfortable too and not heavy at all. The only thing I'm not super loving is that they are light weight so when we have really strong winds the one on the end tends to blow over.

I got them at Lowe's when staging the patio at my old house - they were not expensive at all. I wanted to put something on the back porch instead of all empty that we could also use in our old house and all under $250. I remember coming close including the table. I looked at the end of last year to see about getting some more chairs for our back patio and they still had them, but then I had to tighten the budget and didn't get them.

Against my better judgment, I brought my gargantuan patio set up from Florida with me. I have never really liked it and like it even less now. My patio is small and about to get smaller...I am pulling up pavers to make larger planting beds.

Sooo, I have been looking for a nice round table to seat 4-6 people. And of course I don't want to spend too much money because...well...I just don't. Are there round tables out there? NO! Well, not unless I want to spend at least $600-$1000.

To confound matters, I just bought a new patio umbrella that is bronze, so now I neeed to find a bronze round table for a decent price with a hole for the umbrella. (sigh)

I don't think I can get too much for the FL set either since some of the paint on the chairs is starting to chip from the salt air down there. It was an expensive set and I probably paid too much in my hurry to have a useable patio. (double sigh)

Hey, DLM. Just got back from Costco where I saw a good looking 50" round table for $85. It is aluminum and painted kind of a silvery taupe color.

I want bronze, of course, and am actually toying with the idea of painting a brand new table. Spare me.

Now, I have to bite the bullet and list my set. I hope I am as lucky as you were...

I'm fond of hexagonal tables for deck use. We always seem to entertain 6s. :) On two sets, diameters have been 52" and 53" respectively.

Glad this came back up. I looked at tables today and was hit with the reality; I probably don't have the room to use a large round table comfortably on the part of my deck where I need to put it- DRAT! You need to add 2' all around (so actually 4') to the diameter of a table for the chairs and adequate space to comfortably pull in and out. I tested it in the store today with a 54" table and was shocked, but it's true. And a 54" table is really tight for 6 chairs. So with a larger table, I'm for sure not going to have the room. I'm back to square one and wishing I didn't sell!! The buyer is picking up tomorrow - think I can tell him I changed my mind??!! LOL!

bronwynsmom I totally missed your post. I like the pedestal idea but not sure it's a good idea with our winds - plus I need to put an umbrella in it.

Lena I'll have to go to Lowes - I looked online last week but maybe they have more in the store.

Amy I'm going to Costco tomorrow so will be sure to check - stock does vary by location, though. You won't get 6 people around a 50" table unless you have teeny chairs - can you live with 4 only? Silvery taupe wouldn't be my first choice either - we can paint together!

DLM, I am thinking of getting relatively small chairs, looking to decrease the visual presence on the patio as well. On a daily basis, we will only need to seat two. Sometimes, maybe four or five, rarely six.

I wonder if you could pay off the buyer...give him a hundred bucks to go away or something!

I m going to go out with a tape measure and check that 50" plus 24" later. I'm certain round is what I need, but I appreciate the heads up about the chairs. I went through all this inside...why did I forget about it outside?

Amy how are you doing with your search? I'm getting nowhere in a big hurry. Nothing at HD or Lowes (DH always says Lowes blows :-/) and tried Costco today. Saw the table you mentioned - that's a 4 seat table only. The way the legs are placed you can't squeeze in more chairs and also the chairs that go with it are huge. I've looked at a lot of chairs and those are REALLY wide - even with a larger diameter they will limit how many you could get around the table.

And so it goes.........

Well, against my husband's wishes, I drove down to Costco and grabbed a table. Crazy but for $85, what the heck. (I had my daughter help me get it out of the car.) A couple hours later, as I was writing the CL ad, a gardening friend stopped by. She wants the table. Sold! Incredible.

I decided to keep the original chairs because they are so darned comfortable and I haven't found anything better yet. I know that if I sell then and make DH sit on something small and stackable, like I want for aesthetic and functional reasons, he will complain. If the right chairs throw themselves in front of me, I'll get them, But in the meantime, we have something to sit on.

Here's the funny part: The umbrella is bronze, the chairs are graphite and the new table is that silvery color. Oy! I contemplated spraypaint, but have decided this is a great opportunity for me to get off it and just live with mismatched. I don't have matchy matchy anywhere else, so maybe I can live with it on the patio. An opportunity for personal growth...

The best part is that the new table will tuck into the corner where I won't have to look at the whole array from every darned window, like I did with the gigantic rectangular table. "What do you mean they don't match? I can't even see the furniture..." ;-)
