LED lights okay with dark colored diamond brite

My pool builder does not recommend SAM or LED if your pool plaster is dark colored such as tahoe blue or midnight blue.

He recommends a lighter shade of diamondbrite or

using only white bulb if I stick to a dark colored plaster.

Anyone have experience with the darker colored plaster with their LED or SAM lights?

any opinions is appreciated

I am using LED lights with dark colored plaster (my pool is not completed yet however). I did add a second light in the pools shallow-end however. I have seen photos with the LED lights and dark plaster and it's fine! Most people on the forum recommend the LED and not the Sam lights.

The general consensus is you need more LED lights with a dark plaster. LEDs when set to white are nearly as bright as conventional lights, but they aren't as bright on any of the other colors. It depends on the size of your pool, but you will probably need 3 or 4 LEDs in place of 2 regular lights with dark plaster. I wouldn't let it scare you off, the LEDs are very high on the "cool factor" scale and it usually doesn't cost a whole lot more to add an extra light or 2.

I'm getting bids to resurface my 20+ year old pool and am having a tough time selecting a finish. It's a dated 80's pool/spa combo with tan safety brick coping. I'm hoping to go from "dated" to "classic". I'm planning to swithch the coping out to a used brick bullnose and I'd like to upgrade from standard plaster while retaining the light color.(not necessarily white but, the pool is in the hot sun all day dark pools in my neighborhood get really warm) My kids and their tender feet don't like our neighbors' pebble tec/river rok/gemstone pools. So, I'm honing in on DiamondBrite, 3M Colorquartz and PebbleFina. Honestly though, I'm not clear on the difference. It all sounds like marketing fluff... maybe it is. Can someone help me compare/contrast these materials? In particular, abrasiveness, durability, colorfastness, etc. I'm also curious how it stacks up agains plain old plaster.

If any of you have an in floor cleaning system installed in your pool, have your cleaning heads lightened in color? Ours were originally a dark gray and now are a light gray. We plan to re-plaster in the original dark charcoal/onyx color and wonder how it will look or if we should not worry about the heads standing out? (They are on the steps at both ends and in the floor of the pool) If you have ideas, opinions, or pictures--would appreciate.

I am wondering how the steel blue stands up to time (fade, etc.). Does anyone here have any pictures of the steel blue and if so, what are your thoughts on going with this color? I am days away from having to choose a color for my own pool. Thanks!

Yeh, we have a dark stonescape that we decided on at the end and we need two lights. It looks fine besides that. Even if you have colored lights, you can stop on "white". We had two lights in our last pool and it makes a big difference.

Could you please post pictures of your illuminated pools? I am deciding whether using French gray or Onyx Diamond Brite but not sure how would look at night with one led light.
