Contemporary, luxe bedroom - need your opinion

Trying to pull together a contemporary, luxe bedroom that will be simple but big on little details. White linens, gray-blue silk drapes, crystal lamps, and touches of silver, topped off with a big, beautiful orchid on the dresser with one of those useless, but pretty jewelry trees :) While I can picture what I want to the room to exude, personality-wise I'm having trouble pulling the pieces together. Which headboard would you pair with which bedroom set?

I vote for the first headboard and the first dark wood set....classy!

If one of the sets is stained and one is natural wood, I'd go with the natural wood every time (independent of the headboard choice), for a truly contemporary look. The second looks to be natural? Natural wood will always last in its appeal, no matter what the style; the 'dark stained' generic 'wood' is already on its way out, IMO. And this is from a modernist/contemporary girl.

What about getting a coverlet in a neutral solid and using that as your "main" bedspread, then folding the paisley cover at the foot of the bed so that not so much of the pattern is visible? You would still be using what you have (including the pillows), but there would be less of the paisley pattern in the "vastness" that is the bed cover.

Well, there's always a door mural if you want to have some fun. There's another "door" thread going on here. Someone posted this. There are hundreds of them out there....something for everyone! Certainly you have more options with the queen....you're smart to be getting this down on paper. No, you won't have a lot of room on one side but ??? it's all priorities. We had one bedroom that was only 10' wide with a queen and nightstands. We didn't have to get to the bathroom that way but we did to access a closet next to the bed....about 2'.5" on each side to the walls.....close. A lot of people wouldn't want that but we were cool with it.... The family that bought the house from us decided to keep their king bed (he's 6'6") They must be turning sideways to squeeze by that bed! There's no right or wrong here. You have a couple of options and it's just a matter of your preferences.

If you're after Scandinavian, I would start by removing as many of the black elements that you can and begin trying to incorporate organic elements such as light wood, houseplants, and earthly textiles. It's good that you're adding wood in other places. If you want to stick with upholstered, I'd go with white. That way, if you ever want to paint or change artwork or colors, you've got a neutral base to start with on the nightstands and headboard. Are there knobs for the nightstands? World Market has some that are really fun and could give them a little oomph. I agree with Nicole...first headboard and dark furniture would be my choice. If I had the second set of furniture,
my choice would still be the first headboard; I'd make it work but the dark furniture brings in the drama. All mirrored pieces would work as well...

Brillant choice -- and a vote for the second headboard -- and the second set of furniture. Classy, straight classic, strong lines.

And yes! -- a dash of mirrored furniture -- perhaps a tiny chest-of-drawers beside an upholstered chair would be nice too! Or perhaps a star-burst mirror above the headboard?

Thank you so much! I would love mirrored furniture but we have mirrored closets and an open bathroom with a view of the bathroom mirror from the bed so the room has a huge dose of reflective-ness already :) I do hope to decorate with some mercury glass so that we can still have some glint and glamour!

The second headboard has a more tailored look, so I see more tailred, "flat" bedding on that one. The first one is softer-looking, so I can see puffier, less formal bedding there.

I do like the second furniture group better. I like the wood better and I think it is more unusual, but timeless. I think the nightstands, particularly, on the first group are in danger of looking dated quite soon. I'm a contemporary girl, too, and what Flyleft said is spot on.

I prefer the 2nd group of furniture. I like the subtle banding details on the wood. Make it more modern & interesting.

As for the headboard -- the 1st one is more feminine to me, while the 2nd one appears more austere/masculine. If you are sharing your room w/ a male partner, I would vote for no. 2 headboard.

It's gonna be one beautiful room!

Based on my interpretation of your goal, I believe the second headboard and second set of furniture will help you get there.

I vote for the first headboard and the dark furniture. Your gray-blue silk drapes will look gorgeous with some mercury pieces.

Do you have hardwood floors in your room? If so, a great modern gray color area rug would be so good looking.

I take that back a white rug would look fabulous rather than the gray to match your headboard and linens.
