Solar Pool Covers Work Well!
Comments (43)After looking at my situation I decided to just keep my pool cover on my green house all Summer. Here is why: The Green house temp was 120+ even with both exhaust fans going. Nothing can grow at that temp. I did figure out a way to role up one side of my green house to help cool it next summer. Plus I am thinking of adding a mist system to help cool it down. When it comes to Winter, I just purchase a pool cover that is 14x28 which is enough to cover both ends of the green house which was not covered last Winter. Since the Winters here in Ga. are mostly cloudy I will add some supplemental lighting so that the plants can grow in the winter. There are some HIGH Lumen CFL on the market at this time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hans...See MoreSolar pool covers
Comments (4)If the pool is a really free form, your choices are the disks, which are better than nothing, a liquid fed system which disperses when the surface is disrupted slightly but reforms, or nothing at all. If the sides are straight, using one or two covers may be your solution. The two cover solution is best for dog legged and "L" shaped pools. The single cover is best for straight sided pools, such as rectangles, Grecian, or Roman shapes. The idea of a solar cover is not to heat a pool but rather keep the evaporation at a minimum. This is the #1 loss of heat for a pool, be it day or night. Scott...See MoreSolar fish vs. solar cover - inground in MA
Comments (3)We have had two free form pools and use a solar cover. Our last pool was in MA...and I'm sure glad to be in NC this year! I would look at the solar rings as an easy alternative to the solar cover that would still provide maximum insulation. If you google solar rings or search this forum you will find them. We just got our solar cover this spring for our pool and had I known about the rings I would definitely have gotten those instead...when the cover wears out I will. The cover was a pain to deal with (only use it in early spring in NC), but very necessary in MA. Good luck! Judy...See MoreSolar Roller Cover Stick -- Love or Hate?
Comments (0)Guess I should have been more specific. We had a reel and it worked fine, as far as a reel is concerned. The problem was the free form shape of the pool caused very uneven rolling. When we placed at the end, it was such pain we never used it. Two years ago we purchased a new clear cover and attached it in the middle. While this worked better in rolling up the cover it meant either we left the reel over the middle of the pool (really ugly) or moved it off to the side (not a one person project). So my question was referring to a product called a solar roller cover stick. I am wondering if these do work and are easier than a reel for an irregularly shaped pool. After using one, are you pleased with the results? I now have cut our cover in half to get rid of the big old reel eyesore. I can take the pieces off myself, but was wondering of the solar roller really works. It certainly can't be as easy as they show in the video! Here is a link that might be useful: Solar Roller Cover Stick...See Morejmas65
