Just set my DVR about an hour ago. Sure hope this is a better made Lifetime movie than they normally are. I still watch them though.

I had a natural born son and daughter, in that order. Then my son had a son and daughter, again in that order. My grandson is his father over and over, and my g'daughter looks like my daughter. As I watched them grow, it was like I was looking at my two children growing all over again. I still forget sometimes and call them by my children's names and they laugh and indulge this ole gal. I was once talking to my ex-dil about how much I cherish my grandchildren. It passed right over her head and she said something to the effect. "Come on, they're just your GRANDCHILDREN, you couldn't possibly love them as much as your children." I told her when she had grandchildren, she would understand what I was saying, and maybe not until then. I'm glad you had the company of your g'son, Gandle. It's a special, special time and don't you love how they rediscover things and you can see it anew all over again through their eyes?

Here is the recipe you requested, Shaun. A friend from work gave the recipe to me. Pineapple Coconut Self Frosting Cake 1 8.75-oz can crushed pineapple in syrup 1/3 cup shortening 1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 egg 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup flaked coconut 1/3 cup brown sugar 1/3 cup pecans 3 tablespoon margarine or butter (melted) Thoroughly drain pineapple, reserving 1/2 cup of the syrup. Beat together shortening, sugar and vanilla. When creamy, beat in egg. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with reserved syrup, beating after each addition. Spread 1/2 of batter in greased and floured 8" round or square cake pan. Try to evenly layer with crushed pineapple. Cover with remaining batter. In small bowl, combine coconut, brown sugar, pecans, and butter. Try to sprinkle evenly over batter. Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes. Nice to serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

I can remember glasses in my mom's car from gas purchases, waiting for someone to carry them into the house.... My first set of stainless flatware was Betty Crocker, it seems like a form was available in different magazines, some box tops and $2 for a place setting. There must have been a limit per household because I do remember collecting and filling out the forms in the names of friends and having the pieces sent to them to then give to me....not married yet then, just thinking ahead. I have prettier flatware but still have the Betty Crocker Oneida too and sometimes we use it. No scratches, pitting, scuffs after 40 yrs, - eight 5-piece place settings was a whopping $16. One fork to my latest is that much, on sale ;)

Tornado in my daughter’s town

I'm also late to this topic and Jilly, big hugs to you and your family. Has your daughter checked out storm shelters, maybe paying a monthly amount? I wonder if they're cheaper in the off season which should be any day now, you'd think. This May is the first time we've been in our cellar in years. I can't even think when we were last down there & this month OK had so many tornadoes it's unbelievable. So far we had one a few miles past us which I took a photo of, two weeks ago there was one about 4 miles away coming straight towards us then it lifted, and a few days later there was a tornado one mile south of us. Had it moved one mile north which their movement is generally NE, no telling what would have happened. All of them at night! And more tonight, tomorrow night and on and on. The only plus is I found my favorite water bottle that'd been missing for a few years. :) BTW, I saw a trailer for the new Twister movie which was filmed in my area, and it was THE stupidest thing ever. All these people were at a rodeo in OK when a twister suddenly hits. Oklahomans are weather aware & we close shop early if we know bad storms will arrive within hours, and no way no how would anyone go to a rodeo. Right, Ollie? :)

Interesting...how will this book translate? I liked the book but I'm not sure it was good enough or interesting enough to warrant a movie. Several different story lines they could focus on...what will be the dominate thread...marriage?...
infidelity?...photography?...secrets?...the nurse?...Downs Syndrome?...the girl living in his childhood home?...or that beautiful green coat that 'she' was wearing the first time he saw her in the Department Store?

We will all find out on Saturday night. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh my, I hope they make the movie more entereting than the book! I read this a couple of weeks ago. I went into it with high hopes because it was a best seller and the cover looked so pretty (yea, I know, you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover). But I just found it boring. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen and it never did! I don't think we get the Lifetime channel though.
