Here's An E-mail I Got On The Cost...

The price of Gas versus Printer Ink. All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are.... You will be really shocked by the last one!(At least, I was...)Compared with Gasoline......Think a gallon of gas is expensive?This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective to other things we buy. Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ..........$9.52 per gallon Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 .... $10.17 per gallon Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ...... $33.60 per gallon Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... . $25.42 per gallon Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...Evian water 9 oz $1.49..$21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.) Ever wonder why printers are so cheap? So they have you hooked for the ink. Someone calculated the cost of the ink at...............(you won't believe it....but it is true........)$5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars)So, the next time you're at the pump,be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink! Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...And - If you don't pass this along to at least one person,Your muffler will fall off!! Okay, your muffler won't really fall off...but, you might run out of toilet paper.

I was thinking "White-Out" ... and noticed that you included it.

I was also going to refer to the backward spelling of that fancy water from ... where, France?

P.S. Have ya figgered a way to get the gas companies (or would that be the "car" companies) ... to sell ya a car for cheap ...

... so that they tie you into buying their "dear gas"?

I was just thinking last night about dishwasher rinse aid. I didn't think about it in relation to gasoline, but I looked at that little, rather expensive bottle and wondered how much it cost the manufacturer to produce it. At retail prices, it comes to about $72.00 per gallon.

lumpyjoyce@yahoo.com Nice picture, I only water once a week indoors, outside once a week plus whenever it rains. Looks like you have another flower on the way so don't mess with the pot till it's done. Mine is in a basket with a little moss which is how it was when i bought it, I put that basket in a bigger basket since it was going over the side. I like to use hydroton for my cattleya types, when they over grow the pot I just stick it in a slightly bigger pot and fill the space with more mix. So should we start placing bets on when you will start to get rid of some citrus trees to make more room for orchids?

Wow, great deal and only two blocks from your home! Lucky you! And how cool that you were able to help your DH see your idea. I bet you're having loads of fun. : ) I have Home Design software by Punch for my Mac. It's loaded but there is a bit of a learning curve. I've mostly played with it for the inside. I sure wish I had bought it before our kitchen remodel. For that I did the design the old school way - with graph paper and pencil, and quite a few erasers. lol! Have fun designing and post pics of your creativity! : ) Diana

Got Hosta June, Mail Order through e-bay today

EAH, if you plan on getting MORE hosta, might as well spring for the big bag of MiracleGro potting mix WITHOUT the moisture control in it. That will rot your hosta, who like good water but also like good drainage. I get a pot thats a nice size for the roots, and build a cone of potting mix in the center of it high up to the top of the pot. I then drape the roots like a wet mop around the sides of the cone, push down to seat the crown on top of the cone, and begin covering the roots with more mix. Make sure all the roots are covered, but the crown is not buried. Water gently and let the pot drain. Where needed top it back up with potting mix, and water again. Set the plant in the shade for a couple of days to get over the shock. It is highly recommended by Ken Adrian that you use some low tack masking tape (I use the blue stuff) to gather the petioles of the hosta together and wrap with the tape. This keeps them from flopping over, because once they flop, they will not stand up straight again. Also, if a leaf is torn, or a petiole/stem is damaged, do not break it off, but leave it be. It is doing its job unless it is brown and dead. June is a strong grower, so she will probably perk right up for you. So pleased that you have become enamored of the hosta. That's why I suggested getting BIG BAG of MiracleGro. I bet you cannot stop with JUST ONE hosta! :) (And I'm 2 miles south of I-10 in Mobile, lack about 20 miles being as far south as Houston is according to latitude. And I am familiar with the Houston weather. Good luck and happy growing.

The only one in that list that freaks me out is the WATER!

Except for those who have their own wells or other water source, the majority of us get water through a local system, which we pay for depending on the amount we use. It would be interesting to compare a city water cost per gallon to Naive's $21.19 a gallon.

(I can't do that where I live because water usage is included in the monthly maintenace fee, because water is used for lawn and shrubbery, etc and so that charge is just included to make things simpler.)

I've heard all the reasons why some folks choose to drink bottled water, but I still don't understand that rationale.

I think the printer ink is way out of line. But like they say, it isn't the printer that cost, it's the ink. It's almost cheaper to buy a new printer when yours runs out of ink.

I was going to print this out and take it in to work, but at the price of printers ink I can't affort it. LOL

I heard in a few places that the price of printer cartridge is because the computer chip is in the cartridge. Kodak and I think one other company have come out with a printer that has the chip in the printer. That reduced the price by about $20. That's still high, but much better than the normal prices we've been paying. I don't think the new printers are much more that the old ones. Unfortunately, I found this out a day after I purchased my replacement printer because my old one had run out of ink. Yep, it was cheaper (before I found out about the new types of printers) to buy a new printer than replace the cartridge!! One catch, why does the darn chip cost so much. They should be a dime a dozen by now!
