To blind or not to blind

We are remodeling a 1930 home and about to move into it. In our house now I just have blinds up. No curtains. I am scared of curtains. Too many choices. Rods, curtains, length , color, height to hang them. There is not enough prozac. Husband really wants curtains in this house for some reason. It's going to take me a while probably to get them since someone is going to have to go with me and hold my hand. So should I just put up blinds in every window until I get curtains? Then just leave them up even though I have curtains. I've been looking at peoples pictures and it seems if you have curtains hung there are not blinds too.

ANY help or advice would be appreciated and if your an expert at curtains come to Florida and vacation and HELP ME!

well if you scroll down you'll see numerous curtain posts from myself so i'm not the best one to help. But vacationing in Florida sounds nice right about now. (still quite cool here)

i have blinds and curtains on some windows. both is alright. depends on how much light you want to filter through

LOL....someone else like me! Wish I had some advice for you, but I'm in the same boat.

I'm in my 40s, this is my 2nd new home, and all I've managed to have on windows is blinds. In the first one it was aluminum blinds. In our current home, I moved up to wood blinds--looks great, but sometimes "bare". Some windows don't have anything.

In one room, that's about to change as it was previously unused and no window treatment at all. It's in the front of the house and now I want something for nighttime use, but probably not blinds.

Anyway, I just wanted to commiserate with you :-) Oh, I have seen window treatments (curtains) over blinds. My sister has them and they look okay.

I would like to know too. I had Hunter Douglas room darkening cellular shades in my former house and they worked well, but some light showed along the edges - I had planned to put up panels to take care of that. They also helped with noise. Couldn't sleep with the windows open because the wind blew them and it made noise. Right now we have blinds which don't close tightly and they let in a lot of light

suzi-yes that's right they are rectangle. And I am aware that I'd have lost a triangle (that would be my wasted space that I didn't need for anything) - and the circle in the rectangle does have some wasted space on the 'corners' anyhow. I thought it out and was prepared to do that. I just offered up what I have and what I contemplated as an option in case it was helpful for the OP. I would have been more than happy to do so and it would have housed the stuff that I have in my kitchen just fine, wouldn't have missed it a bit and susans are pricey. Some people love them, some people like them and some people just don't have them. You don't have to have a susan as a solution. Space calculations have been done showing that it's not really the loss of space that it can appear to be. I am okay with not preferring them even though many or even most enjoy them and find them useful. closing-off-a-blind-corner calculations beth09-I know it! I actually have a drawer stack that's somewhat empty - hahaha. It is a shock to the system. You will find what works for you. I will say the super susan (no pole) pie shaped does seem much sturdier than my old regular susan with pole.

I gave up on blinds years ago. I think they are big dust collectors. I had custom roller shades made for some rooms--I really like them--they do a great job blocking out sun for sleep and you can leave them partially down or up for sunlight and air.

I think we need a bit more info. I actully don’t like blinds they block the view . I much prefer solar shdes for daytime privacy, heat control and UV control and allow you to keep the view. If you need privacy at night add drapes.

So I see I'm not the only "blind" one when it comes to curtains ! If I go in someone else's house and see something I know I like it and it looks good I can just go buy that. But making decisions like this just kills me. I just need someone to come in and help me pick stuff. I just am not good with colors etc. I watch HGTV and some people hang them high for a reason, some people hang them low. I would rather lick a cheese grater than deal with curtain decisions.

I prefer having curtains, or at the very least a valance, over blinds - blinds alone are much too severe and plain a look for my tastes, while in combination with a fabric element to soften them up they're just practical. If I do not have a need for privacy or light control, I'd prefer to have curtains by themselves.

There are a lot of excellent books out there explaining the "whys and wherefores" of window treatments. The Window Treatments Idea Book and The Big Book of Window Treatments are good places to start. Check your library or browse the bookstore for more.

We have both, and I like the combo. Don't mind the paint job - we aren't finished yet.
