In the peach to buff, to orange and red color range with pink; 'Anna Olivier' is the strongest scented Tea, that I have ever smelled and I've had the joy of smelling every Tea at Vintagegardens.com home garden and S.J.H.R.G.. Crepescule' trumps 'Perle d'or for fragrance, and in our garden is more resistant to disease. All year it is nearly clean. -Monsieur Tillier, which is very disease resistant in my garden where conditions favor p.m. over blackspot. I can only detect a light fragrance from the last two. I have loved Mlle. Cecille Brunner' longer than any other rose, both my grandmother and mother grew it and I have the original form, the spray form as well as the climbing form. The spray form does bloom far more than the climbers. I detect a strong fragrance, of damask rose with a tiny bit of black pepper as a scent note finish from all of them. except the white sport, which smells more like a floral blend with a touch of lemon. with 10 feet left of the spread, I would plant a 'Grandmothers Hat' for fragrance, it has a very resistance to disease, here. In cool weather this rose produces gorgeous lilac-pink blooms with the mauve tint being stronger. It has a long bloom season and the quickest re-bloom of any H.P. I've ever seen or grown. Oh what fun, to have so much room still available. I only water my mature Tea and Tea-Noisette roses c. twice a month in spring and autumn and 3 times a month in the hottest weeks of summer. I don't water them at all in winter, because we get a good amount of rain, usually, during that season. When they are mature sized plants, -the partial shade will lessen the amount of water you need to use. -adding 4"+ of mulch to the bed, (kept a couple inches away from the base of the canes, ) will also lessen the amount of water you use on rosebushes. I often forget to water my Teas and I've never seen their leaves droop, which would indecate dehydration. Lux. P.S. I placed a 'Mermaid' in my backyard against a fence where I have espaliered her size within bounds to where she will grow to be 4 and 1/2 feet from the fence outwards, and I've given her an allotment of 25' width. I adore this rose.

Kswl, I'm going to have to check out Absurdistan because Confederacy is one of my favorite books EVER. I re-read it for our book club a few years ago. That was another one that some people loathed. As for Freedom, count me in as a non-fan. I think what bothered me was that the author didn't make me care about a single character. In fact I actively despised each and every one. Not to say I expect to love everyone in every book. However a good writer pulls you in and makes you at least care what is happening. Makes you understand someone or something. Makes you stop and say 'huh, that's so true' or conversely 'huh, never saw it that way before.' Jonathan Franzen did not do that for a single page in Freedom. I actually tried to read The Marriage Plot a few weeks ago and dropped it immediately for the same reason. In that one, I did not for a second believe the Eugenides even had an inkling about who or what his characters were supposed to be and do. Feh. Life's too short and there are too many amazing books out there. Which brings me to a recommendation of something I just read that was stunning: Girlchild by Tupelo Hassman. Have linked to it below. A coming of age story, not a light read but what an amazing debut novel. The writing, the protagonist, the structure...all incredibly well done. EK Stone on walls and cabinet fronts, EK Rainbow Fog on trim. Taken with artificial light and perhaps flash, minimal natural light. Looks very different in the daytime - the Rainbow Fog is beautifully creamy in the diffuse north light. The third picture isn't very true to the color but shows what I did to paint a shower surround in the trim color (since it was really just a bath surround). Not shown in these photos, I later painted another surround around the sink, which works very well to hide all the toothpaste splatter. > > >

It's Zuider Zee blue (scroll down) from FPE. It's the light Delft/Federal blue. I'd seen it on doors in Boston. I used it first as an accent color on the screen door (below). This door has been outside for a year and looks brand new. It has inserts so I spent a long time with them in the basement last winter. The trim around the screen door looks a bit flatter as it hasn't yet been done with the FPE white. The high gloss is what I wanted for all the doors and was well worth bothering with the oil-base. The water based exterior paint was mildewed and the wood was bleeding through it. No priming, just roughing the surface and 2 coats of the oil-base. Didn't buy the door kit -- just 1 pint of white, 1 blue and their thinner -- I have enough left over to do the back door as well (next spring). (Painter did the front door as it had to come off the hinges.) On the screendoor pic below -- if the inside door was the blue do you think it would make the outside white and blue pop or should I keep the inside white as well? (The paint on the screendoor looks green but it is exactly the same as the front door! Which tells us something about photos). Trust I'm not hijacking this thread -- I believe the OP had the info she wanted.
