Speaking of Bank Accounts

My husband has a personal account of maybe $6,000 in a semi-national bank. This year he was wondering why they messed up & didn't send him (and the IRS) a 1099 for this account for interest paid. Although I already realized why, they confirmed that 1099s are only required when an interest/dividend amount is over $10. Remember in the 1980ties, when banks used to pay 16-18%? Overall, not good, but I miss the days of at least 3 or 4% to make a savings account worthwhile.
