PVC butt joints

I am moving a toilet and remodeling my second floor. I have access to the joist cavity from below (my foyer ceiling is a mess!). I need to install a 3" PVC drain line for the toilet in the new location running perpendicular to the joists. They are 2x12 so I'm OK drilling 3" in the middle third of the joist.

My question is how can I join the final sections of PVC and tap in to the main drain when I won't have any free-play in the pipes? My vent stack has what appears to be slip couplings. I imagine they don't have the inside ridge so they can slip all the way on to one side of a pipe. Are they approved for waste drainage? Any hints?

Also, the drainage run for the new toilet will be 5'. I've read where a vent is not needed for runs up to 6'. Do you all agree?
