Sagging Premier Railings

I was wondering if anyone out there has had a problem with their Premier deck railings. My deck is a couple of years old and they are sagging. I also had my grill too close and the surfaced bubbled. I loved the way they looked and went for the $$$$. So disappointed.

Very often the composite railings just need a squash block - a midspan support block. Almost every brand requires it. Good news is, you can probably still add it. Check with the manufacturer and/or look at the installation instructions, but I've done it before by just very gently prying the sagging section up and slipping in the squash block. (a squash block is just a short piece of baluster that sits on the deck and props up the center of the bottom rail)

Was cleaning deck and railings last weekend and noticed cracks in many of the bottom rails, including rust marks. I am so disappointed in this brand. It was very expensive and not worth the cost. I would NOT recommend Premier to anyone.

I had forgotten this, but we found the same problem. We did loosen the bolts to readjust the parts and split the difference. I just checked our greenhouse, and we have roughly the same amount of part 26 sticking out past part 24, roughly 1/4", on both ends. I'm not sure it would make much difference. I think we split the difference because at the time I was worried it might mean the doors wouldn't meet quite in the center if I didn't balance everything out on both sides. You're right, the instructions do say to make the right end flush, and that illustration at the top of page 7 does show a nice flush fit on the left side. Fitting flush on both sides doesn't seem possible with the parts they sent, so I guess this is just another case where the manual is goofy. Also, I just checked the gap in the center of the track (as in your second photo) and our gap looks just as large or larger. It hasn't presented any problems as far as our doors operating smoothly. Using first instincts helped us too. Sometimes our first instinct was to fling the manual into the bushes and ignore it for a while. That worked too. ;-)

A chain can be shortened or lengthened by removing or adding links but a special tool is required. Your door may just be closing too far causing the chain to sag but it sounds like you have additional problems. I think a call to a door technician is in order.

All beams sag. We limit the sag based on the safety of the installation. A non weight bearing beam holding an opener is not a big deal. It might look bad, but as long as there are not other issues it is not always a problem.

Using a square on the metal frame, it IS a little off: But looking at the hinge from the outside, you can see that the door has pulled away from the hinge a bit: Am I right in understanding that there's no real way to adjust the door to the hinge? If not, I guess that I could unscrew the top and left side of the frame and shift it down a little to match the door. Or put a wedge / shim at the bottom of the door to make the bottom hinge match, but then it might not shut at all. I WANTED to replace the storm door altogether, but then COVID happened and money got tight :-(

Martin are you understanding this...no railing support,grill so close it melts the surface, Rust????

John, I understand that my grill being too close was my problem, but I didn't do anything to make the rails sag and crack. It never occurred to me that the grill was too close since I had wood railing before and didn't read anything about heat causing bubbling or I would have taken precautions. My grill was in the same spot for 15 yrs. I take offense to that. The rust is probably because water got inside from the cracks. So John, maybe get more info before judging. Are you a contractor or company employee? Maybe you could give me advise instead of blame.

All composite customers should do their HomeWork

No composite will rust.

All composite decking/railing will burn if your luckly bubble from extream heat close by.

The install instrustions Clearly call for a support /squash block under the required span.

Premier decking/railing comes with a 20 year warenty including cracking.

If you or your builder did not follow instrustion the blame is on >> You J.

I have the premier railings and followed all of the directions very carefully. Large deck, angles, etc...

No problems

- There should be a support block installed per the instructions on lengths above the minimum requirement. Mine have not sagged in 3 years or so.

- As all the screws are stainless, not sure how they could rust...
