Is there a deeper (but equal-quality) sink than Shaws 30' farm?

The Shaws 30" sink is 8.5" inside depth and 10" outside depth.

Will be ordering sink and faucet soon and due to faucet height and common complaints about splashing due to height, I'd like to cover all bases and know if there's a deeper farm sink out there to take a look at. Only thing is I'd like it to be the same quality or better than the Shaws. Needs to be no more than 30" wide.

theresse- I really think that the key is to get the center of the water stream, and therefore the center of the spout directly into the center of the drain. The total height depends on the combination of the faucet height, sink height, and thickness of your countertop (assuming it is undermounted). I don't think you will have more or less splashing with a different height sink, as long as you center the water stream and the drain. You really love the Shaws, and I think you should still get it. Provided that you order a compatible faucet, you won't have any problem.

Thanks amberley. The only problem w/ the Shaws sink is that the drain is offset which means I'm supposed to move the swiveling faucet to one side whenever I turn on water, if I go by those rules (that seems it would be odd, doesn't it?). But then maybe a little splashing won't be the end of the world. Regardless, enough people have commented that if the sink's deeper, there's less chance of getting splashed which I suppose makes sense. I"m not too terribly worried at this point while at the same time wanting to take one last look at all my options in in case there's a good alternative before I put in the order.

My new Shaw kitchen sink doesn't drain completely either but the water does pool evenly and I used that fact to my advantage to keep the sink clean. I cannot abide a wet sink. I like it to stay bone dry between uses, and I will tend to dry it several times even while I cook. Anyway, I own a small Kohler sink squeegee with a brush on one side and the rubber blade on the other- 10 dollars on Amazon. I use the tiny bit of water that pools in each corner to push any bits of food coffee grounds down the drain as I squeegee, which helps me to clean the sink as I squeegee. My last sink was stainless and drained perfectly but the squeegee couldn't do its job as well without the water to push away the food particles so it took a bit more rinsing and work. With the Shaw sink I can get the sink clean with a single pass of the squeegee. Either way, I finish by towel drying. I know this is not by design but it works to my advantage. If you have to have a dry sink I would keep the sink and get the squeegee but if you want to let your sink air dry between uses perhaps the Shaw isn't for you.

plumeriavine - I would draw it up, but I wouldn't get it accurate in terms of finding out whether one would really see that it goes beyond the doorway from a distance. It's rather simple in that it's just a symmetrical extension of the poking-out sink area, on either side. While I'm not sure, I imagine the contractor could just angle it in on both sides the way it's already angled in on either side of the sink, right? resueyla - thanks - I think you (and others) are right that symmetry is key. I'm glad you don't think it would be too noticeable! :) kathy_wa - thank you for the suggestion of how to buy more space! boxerpups - Wowy wow wow thank you for the several very helpful pics! I love the column idea (square versions would be really appropriate in my arts & crafts house that has a lot of square columns, wouldn't it? How fun to imagine... ). The only issue is that it's not just the sink that sticks out, as it does presently in my picture (link) above. I wish that were the case cause I kind of like the look of just the sink sticking out. If the area to the left and the right of the sink were to also get brought out into the room to the same depth as the sink, then the sink no loner looks like a centerpiece and the columns or even cute little feet if nothing else, may not work so well? I guess that's what I'm asking now. I think I'm convinced things should be symmetrical for THIS particular kitchen which doesn't have much of a choice due to that long line from doorway to doorway. But am I correct to assume that the soon-to-be sticking-out area (including both sides of sink) will no longer have a way of looking special in some decorative sense beyond that? I mean could I put columns just to the left of the future (sticking-out) dishwasher area and just to the right of the future sticking-out area to the right of the the sink? Sticking-out area? Sorry - I'm tired and obviously very inarticulate at the moment! ;)

@Ellen Allard My sink is from Havens Metal. Havens Metal When I was remodeling I did a lot of research on copper sinks once I decided I wanted one and so I knew that I wanted a sink that had a living patina and not any kind of artificial factory patina. The sink is expensive - a luxury but I love it. The other maker of high quality sinks is Rachiele and they are equivalent. Havens actually fabricated the Rachiele sinks for many years until they went their separate ways. When I purchased my sink, Havens was about $1000 less for the same configuration. The quality is equivalent but Havens is a slightly larger operation and makes more than sinks so they have economy of scale to some degree. I do have a less expensive copper sink in my guest bath with an artificial factory finish. I was fine with that because it just doesn't get the same kind of wear from people washing their hands a few times a week. That sink is from Premier Copper Products. I mention them because they do have some great copper stuff that is well priced. My hood is a custom job from them and they also did a custom copper medallion my designer sketched for them. If the prices were equal I would much prefer getting the sink in person. To the best of my knowledge Rohl (Shaw's) farm sinks are not made to order at the customer level they may be made to order on the retailer level but I am not sure. These sinks are hand made so seeing your actual sink in person can be advantageous. You can check that your sink is square, you can check drainage pitch using the marble test and you can look for any of the handmade imperfections that may have passed Rohl's review process but not yours. With that said none of the retailers in 75 mile radius of us came close to the price we got online at Vintage Tub and Bath, www.vintagetub.com. We had a very good purchasing experience with them and they will match the prices of other retailers.

My mom's spout swivels (but it is really not the right faucet, and causes splashing bcs it doesn't reach the center of the drain), and mine will swivel also- but I got mine long enough to reach. I think you will probably leave it in the functional position. Having the offset drain, IMO, makes the sink much more functional.

amberley - when you say I'll probably leave it in the functional position, do you mean that even if the faucet's centered above the sink (it's probably going to be a wall faucet) that I'll just have it over to the side all the time? That's just...I dunno...weird I guess. But you're probably right!

My Whitehaus is 16 1/4 by 29 1/2 inside measurement. My faucet is installed so that the water stream falls into the offset drain. Since the faucet swivels, it's easy to position it over the drain if I need to. Otherwise it has not splashed anyway. Maybe it depends on the water pressure? The measurement from the bottom of the faucet to the bottom of the sink is 13 3/4 inches.
