Not a good hair day

Set my hair last night and this morning I must say it looked pretty darn curly and cute. Feeling great (good hair does that to one) I went to Staples to buy a new computer chair. While I waited at the store for them to assemble it, I noticed it was pouring rain outside and my car was of course parked further than it could have been. After the chair was finished, I had to dash to the car with no hat on, bring the car up to the entrance and then help the guy put it into the back and front seats of my car. All the time it was raining harder.

When I started to drive away I looked in the rear view mirror - ACK. My beautiful hair had fallen a mile and there was a mixture of curly and straight lengths. I looked like a witch! All I could do was laugh, bet the people around wondered what was wrong with me.

I understand...my hair is fairly short, blond, thin, fine and straight. I need gel and a good hairspray for any volume.
Perms don't last, plus my hair is always trimmed. A really "good" hair day is rare...

I understand your pain. Yesterday, I got my hair cut and the stylist gave me a lovely blow dry, finishing it with hair spray. My next stop was at an unenclosed shopping center. Normally, I park at one end and walk to the other and back, checking in at B&N, Pier 1, Home Goods and Staples. It was sprinkling, but I didn't want to hassle with an umbrella. Unfortunately, when I exited Staples, it was pouring buckets. By the time I reached the car, I was soaked to the skin. I couldn't even get a comb or a brush through my sopping wet hair because the hair spray was acting like concrete. I needed to go to the grocery store, but I gave up and went home because I looked and felt like a drowned rat. We ate cereal for dinner. LOL!

Jlc, you're stunning dear. Your hair is faboo… Like the others, it's not at all what I expected. I have seriously curly hair, and wear it just past my shoulders with very long layers. Any other cut would be treacherous on a humid day. I'm a bit older than you, and that style works for me. I have had too many bad haircuts to worry about if I'm too old for what works best. I color it because I don't feel old enough to be all grey. Maybe one day I'll move to a silver bob, but probably not for another decade or so… Ellendi and BBee3 mentioned Keratin. I tried about 5 different professional Keratin treatments, and there is a wide range of results. Some are poker straight, others hardly any difference. I like the one that just makes the curls "drop" a little, and still take a curling iron if I want more "boing." There are temporary 30 day treatments, others last about 6 months. The 30 day doesn't make a huge difference, but it will make blow drying time shorter. It's a nice entree into the keratin products, and maintains the flat iron even on rainy days. I remember when Laurie Partridge and Marsha Brady hair was the style. After one of the Keratin treatments where my hair wouldn't hold a curl, I was cured of wishing for that. To the OP, if this has been a somewhat sudden/recent change (that washing your hair is exhausting) you might need to pay a visit to your MD. It sounds from many of the posts that this is not so uncommon as we age, but it also would be a classic symptom of silent heart problems and worth getting checked out. Women tend to have much more subtle symptoms than men, sometimes it can be hard to get our MDs to take them seriously. And, a recent check-up with no signs of trouble is not a warranty. Heart disease is notoriously hard to detect without symptoms. Not that I want to scare you, but I felt it should be said to be on the safe side. Heart disease is still the #1 killer of women, and symptoms like fatigue, an little ache in the shoulder or back, or an upset stomach are so easy to think are nothing.

You’re hair is very much like my DD’s. You both can wear any style beautifully and never seem to have a bad hair day. I like your newest cut a lot, it’s a little edgy and really cute. Unless it has lots of body, (which mine doesn’t) thick hair really isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I just had my hair thinned and 4 inches cut off and I still it feel like I’ve got a mop on my head. My hair also grows super fast which doesn’t help the cause either. Gahhh!!!

@olychick I appreciate your input and understand exactly what you're saying. I am pretty adept with a hair dryer and flat iron - have never owned a curling iron or wand for some reason but would add that to my arsenal if helpful. Finding product that can help with that texture without crunch has not been easy. @Tina Marie you have to show me! Your hair sounds absolutely wonderful - I too was always a brunette and now have what appears to be black mixed with the gray but I think it's just the contrast. I can't let my hair dry too far on its own or it gets unruly so I will need the right product to get that slightly piece-y look after blow drying. I don't need curl enhancer but use GK mousse to help maintain lift at the front and crown. What gel do you find woks best? @carolb_w_fl_coastal_9b those pics are a shorter version of how I have been wearing my hair pretty much forever. Length will vary from slightly below my shoulders to slightly below my chin. I needed a change so had a short (for me) cut 6 weeks ago but it was too short in back - I have a wonky and very low hairline at the back of my neck. My hair grows fast and I'm ready to transition into something new. @Oakley I wore a long shag all through college but my hair was even curlier then so letting it dry on its own was not an option.

I cut my hair myself a couple days ago. It's shoulder-length, light brown with some gray. Too much trouble to go to the beauty shop or ask my daughter (who has a hairdresser degree). So I just grabbed on both sides and cut about 2 inches off the bottom with my Fiskars sewing scissors. It came out very bouncy, I am happy. But I won't post a pghoto, I just don't know how, plus my digi camera has a low battery.

I'd be happy for a bad hair day of we would just get some rain. It is parched here and April is usually rainy and muddy. Hard to wish for bad weather, but I do.

When the rain soaks my hair it reactivates the gel and turns it into a sticky mess.

Isn't funny how the appearance of your hair affects your mood?
