Where do all the decorative bed pillows go at night?

I notice that the trend is to put lots of decorative pillows all over the bed during the day. Sometimes I like the look, though often I think it's over done.

But where do they go at night? In most of the rooms there doesn't seem to be a good spot to put them. Do people just put them on the floor? If you use decorative pillows on your bed where do you put them at night?

I have a small upholstered bench that I put them all on. If I were to put them on the floor, it's a guarantee that one of the dogs will end up happily nesting in it before the night is over.

adopted ~ I had a heck of a time finding a bedspread that fit most of my criteria. Thankfully I tend to go for more traditional and/or simple ones. I gussy it up with the accoutrements ;o) I found the one we have at JC Penney on-line. It's a simple quilted lightweight one in a smoky slate-ish blue. I have a queen sized duvet from Country Curtains at the foot of the bed for extra warmth, if needed. The pattern from CC is "Montague" and we have the duvet and the valances in the same pattern. When we went from a queen bed to an olympic queen I didn't want to give up the duvet. I'm chuckling as I read this thread. So many personalities and so many different ways to put together a bed. Who'd have thunk?

Lynn: really like your idea as well - at least they are hidden. Part of the reason for not having the sleeping pillows on the bed is they are not that great looking. We have TempurPedic pillows and the pillowcases don't fit them really well so there's a lot of material around that stick out at the sides and could show with deco pillows in front - don't really know yet. I don't want to spend a lot of time doing my bed either. Trisha: throwing them on the bedside rug is not an option. Lynn and Terriks: First, we won't have too much wall space due to a lot of glass for the view and don't want the TV in front of any of the glass. But, I don't plan to spend a lot of time doing work stuff in the bedroom and if I do occasionally I can listen to the news and if there is something interesting to watch I can stop for a few minutes. I think of my bedroom as a place to go away from work and chores and to relax - read,watch TV, sleep. In fact, I will need to put on ear phones when DH is in bed if he wants to read. Ironing and other chores will usually be done in the kitchen, family room, or outside. Thanks for all your ideas - Cheers!

[Bellaflora, that's my bed under the window. It's a walnut Empire-style daybed with scrolled ends from about 1830, and it's only 24 inches wide, but I've been sleeping on it since 1977. I was just out of college & just starting my first job when I spotted it at an antique show, and the $240 it cost me seemed like a fortune. I had to eat macaroni-&-cheese for weeks to repair the damage to my bank account, but, hey, it was worth it. The brand-new furniture that my pals were buying during the same period all went to Goodwill--or a landfill--a long time ago, but I figure my bed has at least another 50 years left to go. Anyway, the writer who came to my apartment to interview me for the O at Home article had the same question you did--"Where's your bed?" When I told her I was sitting on it, she paused, glanced at her hands, and then said, "Well, it's a really nice piece. But...what do you do... how do...what if you sometimes want to...um...have...a guest?" I just laughed & told her "I don't have those kind of guests."]

Mtn, I hear ya. One summer when I was a teen, I made my bed up so beautifully with new sheets, perfect corners, I couldn't bear to mess it up. I slept all summer on a sleeping bag on the floor next to it...cozy nest :) Throw pillows: depends on who gets there first. DH frisbees them into the corner. I use them for reading (3 little-ish ones) so I tuck them between bed and nightstand at lights out.

Ours go on top of a wicker hamper. The idea of tossing them on the floor creeps me out.

I'd love to find a solution to using less. My main objective is hiding the sleeping pillows, but even with 2 euros and 2 standard sham-covered pillows they're still visible. Wish there were more size choices available. A euro as wide as a standard would be perfect. Then I could get by with just two.

I have a small chair in the corner of the room they go on and under. The two large europillows are stacked on the floor. If I didn't have the chair, they'd be stacked on the floor.

When I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with our bedroom I thought all those pillows looked like a huge pain but after a while I noticed all the pictures I really liked of beds had LOTS of pillows. I went for it and don't mind moving them around every day.

My DH is a pilot, who travels each week. Consequently, we have a permanent luggage rack in our bedroom. It's pretty, I antiqued it and put pretty fabric webbing on it. The pillows get stacked on that rack every night. I could put them on the bench at the foot of our bed, but then my Westie objects because he can't hop on the bed to sleep, unless he climbs on the bench, first! You see who rules in this house........

Mine (if I had any) would go on the cedar chest at the foot of my bed with my comforter.

I too put mine stacked up on a wicker basket. I have two dogs and the thought of the pillows touching the floor makes me literally sick to my stomach. My dogs shed terribly and in addition they would happily nestle into the pillows.

Do not get me wrong I love my dogs like they are my kids!

We each have a chair next to the bed, they go on the chairs.

We have a cedar chest in one corner of the room on which the pillows reside overnight (and sometimes during the day if I don't make the bed LOL)
