I need a little more help, please :)

I'm looking to replace my cabinet doors. I've looked at Scherr's and Barker's. Barker's website is soooo user friendly and I find Scherr's not so much.

I'm looking at a recessed Shaker type and also a simple raised panel. I love the look of the recessed but am wondering will it look really dated soon.

Here's my questions:

1. Do all recessed Shaker doors only have 1/4" plywood center or mdf? That seems very thin to me. Is that sturdy enough for a kitchen that gets lots of use?

2. Since I'm going to paint them, should I get the center panels (raised) in solid wood or mdf?

3. I want glass doors but what if the inside is not white? I think mine are plywood with some type of veneer or something on them? They feel slick and plasticky--if that's a word :) Can you paint that?

Hope these questions aren't too ridiculous. I'm a beginner! But I've learned TONS here!
