Why is my dr's scale 10 pounds over mine?!!!

Arghhhghh!!! I hate going to my dr's. Their scale is always more than my home one. This time there was almost a ten pound difference.

I had to go in and get a renewal for my bp meds and get something different for my GERD. It's killing me. He mentioned an EGD! No way, at least not yet. Going to put me on protonics and I'm cutting back on the caffeine. ) : I just picked up some decaf coffee and tea, as much as I hated to. It's getting worse as time goes on, no matter what I eat anymore. I eat Tums at work like they're going out of style.

Have to go back tomorrow and get some blood work done. My cholesterol has been high and they've been wanting to put me on medication for quite a while now. I'm trying to cut back in my diet and trying to exercise, which I was doing pretty good till I got sick this winter and then got hurt on the job. Now I'm sick again.

Proselic has given me great relief from GERD.

Yep, I think my Doctor's Nurse, puts her foot on the scale to make me feel "fat".

When i went for my physical a few weeks ago ,there was an empty space where the scale used to be.I went Yea,no weigh in,the nurse said it's temporary Kathleen,we're getting a digital one that even shows the ounces.Sure let the air outa my sails.But at least i didn't have to weigh in that day.

I have a digital at home and weigh myself every day.

Hi Penny. Your question prompted me to find out more about these mini-monsters in disguise so I've just been reading about the life cycle of scale insects!! So here's the nitty-gritty! Apparently, they lay eggs under the protection of the scale itself, these hatch into nymphs which are more mobile than the adult scales. Or some types lay eggs in bundles of white waxy threads. Can't find any info that says they migrate into the soil at any stage. Those attached to g/h or house plants can breed continuously so you can get all stages from eggs through to nymphs and adults at any one time. The adults are harder to eradicate due to the shell they hide under, the softer immature nymphs and eggs are destroyed easier. Those adults on outdoor plants tend to breed only once, in late June-July. Most annoyingly, scales can stay glued to the plant for some time after they have been killed off and presumably look just like the live ones....so how do you know if they're actually dead?? Goodness knows!! Anyway, thorough spraying with whatever you choose, plus squishing those you can see (either dead or live ones) will hopefully rid the plants of this pesky pest at some point. The product I used was Bayer's Provado Ultimate Bug Killer and contains Thiacloprid....and I hope it works!!! The plant I treated is still alive so that's good news!! Hope this helps. Hi Kuan, no worries, it's there now, earlier on I was getting a message saying it had been removed from photobucket!! If it were mine, I too would be tempted to prune it back quite a lot. I could have drawn some lines using our other computer but it's 'down' at the moment so I can't. If I say I would cut the right hand branch where the white trim line around the edge of your table is and the remaining branches at a similar length, does that make sense? I would also try raising the caudex up out of the pot a bit as I often find there is a far more interesting caudex going on below soil level. These are just my opinions and what I would do myself as I prefer shorter, stumpier adeniums....the choice is yours of course! As Marie says, the cuttings can root after they have calloused over for a day or so, but it's something I have never tried as I've never cut one back yet...they've never been big enough yet..lol! What length cutting is best to try and root I have no idea, hopefully someone will help you out on that one. Good luck, I hope it flowers for you. Gill from the UK.

Welcome to the forum, Jeff. Hope to see more of you around here! Johnliu, I used an old spring scale up until about a year ago. Love having a digital scale. Use it a lot for 'scaling' dough when I make hamburger & brat buns. Nice to have a uniform size so that they all bake evenly and that I get the X amount of buns that I'm sposed to get out of a recipe. (I note the weight for whatever bun I'm making on the recipe card.) Also comes in very handy when I make a layer cake...for getting the same amount of batter in each pan. Another use I have for it is checking the weight of a prepackaged food item...does that 2# sack of pinto beans really weigh a full 2 pounds? Hint: Sometimes they don't. Bonus factor is that the digital scale takes up a lot less room than the old spring scale. I tend to use mine quite often so it lives on the counter. Last thing is that I made sure that the scale uses common batteries, i.e., AA's. First scale that I got used some not so common (and expensive) batteries. Turned out to be a defective scale that went thru a set of batteries every couple of weeks! We returned that scale to the store & ordered a different one from Amazon.

I pick most of my roses at Edwards Greenhouse here locally. They offer 100s of roses, and I did pick my Memorial Day out early just like fragrancenutter. Because our winter is going on when the roses first become available, we pick and pay ahead of time and receive a 10% discount if we do this before March 31. Then Edward's pampers your roses in a special greenhouse until the time you choose to take them home. Only the "chosen" roses are in this greenhouse. The head of roses and perennials will order special roses for you, too, which I have done several times. This woman is a force of nature, growing hundreds of peonies and clematis at her home for Edwards, as well as running a massive perennial and rose department. I am lucky, I guess. And rose prices, especially for the five gallon Austin's, are quite reasonable. I still managed to pick a dud Memorial Day! Or maybe I am a dud grower of Memorial Day. I think how that rose turned out was a combination of factors. I certainly don't blame Edward's. I have had duds from Palatine and other rose sellers, too. It's all sort of a gamble. Is your scale on a flat surface or carpet? Mine always has me weighing a lot less if I have it on the carpet...moving it to a vinyl or tile floor shows me weighing what I really weigh.

Hey! Guess what. One morning I didn't like what my scale said to me, so I stepped on it backwards and it went down 4 lbs!! LOL

I also suffer from GERD Kath and took the Prevecid and Protonix but didn't get much relief until the doc switched it to Nexxium. I've had to start taking my dose at bedtime. Seems I was waking up with heartburn. At one time, I was on a 40mg Nexxium in the morning and at night. Now I just take one at night every other day or sometimes can go 2 days in between. You are doing the right thing switching to decafs too. Also foods with an acidic tomato base can cause a build up. Best of luck to you. I know how miserable it can be.

My doc's scale is never with mine. It's at least 5 or 6 lbs. heavier. ugh!

I just refuse to get on their scales. Really! I weigh myself in the morning after going to the loo, and before dressing or eating.

Then I tell the nurse what my weight is, when I come in.

Some don't like it, but most got used to me. :)

Lydia, the scale is in the bathroom on linolium.

Summer, everything I eat anymore causes me problems. I usually take Lean Cuisines to work but quit taking the ones with tamato sauce in them but it hasn't helped.

I take Nexium every morning. It really helped my reflux at night.
I usually weigh myself in the morning, nekkid, before eating like Moni. My scale is digital and on linolium too.
The Dr. scale is always 7 lbs heavier, especially in the winter.

Check to see if you have to take it on an empty stomach. Then wait an hour to eat. That is why I take mine first thing in the morning.

our doctors scale weighs about 10 more pounds then ours at home...I know my son does NOT weigh 130 pounds...hubster flipped out cause it put him over the 200 pound mark...

LOL I hate dr scales and everytime I tell Brian that ours at home weighs us 5lbs light he gets mad..LOL so I just don't say anything anymore....I do weigh everyday though but I try and jus tgo by the fit of my clothes...I took Nexxium when I had the bleeding ulcers it was heaven...Stacy
