CorrectDeck vs. Trex....???

I've read several posts about different materials. It sounds like both CorrectDeck and Trex got some positive reviews but also major complaints about molds and stains. I live in San Francisco,CA, with lots of fog but stable tempratures. Which material is better to use in my case? Also, would you make recommend to build the whole deck w/ composite material or to build rails w/ redwood? The carpenter that I talked to was concerned about connecting composite rails and posts with screws.Thanks for your help.

I would choose correct deck over trex anyday, however I would choose Premier/Timber Tech/Boardwalk over correct deck. Premier has anti-fungal & mildicides in the plastic so it does not have mold/mildew issues that some of the others have. The new Boardwalk has a class 1 fire rating if that's a concern. Your carpenter should have no problems connecting the composites with screws, but in some cases he may have to use a pilot hole to prevent splitting.

I see on their website that CorrectDeck now offers an anti-fungal treated board to reduce mold and mildew.

sunnyca, There are only two homes in the condo association, and I have exclusive rights to this area. Only impact to the other town home will be noise and dust during the installation. My neighbors in the back house recently strung a cable above the space to hook up TV or internet service or something, without asking permission. I will be applying for a permit from the city. The area is partially covered - the 2nd floor of the house extends out a few feet beyond the 1st floor.

I would not recommend correctdeck decking - the mold problem is terrible and I am not satisfied with the companies response. The CS person immediately questioned the installation on the deck - I have pictures - the deck looked perfect when first installed. It is all speced properly, there is hardly a tree around to drop leaves, it sits in the sun for 10-12 hours a day and the mold just grows and grows... I did what they recommended - used a mild cleaner and power washed it - within a week you could see the black spots returning and now they are even worse than before! It does look HORRIBLE. It might be worth exploring a class action suit!

I am interested learning the differences between the brands of composite and pvc decking and IPE as well. We first considered IPE but heard that it needed to be oiled every year or two in our Temperate climate whereas the Trex and Azek/TimberTech were pretty much maintenance free. Our contractor told us to look at Trex products or the “TimberTech Pro“ group which is Just one of the three or four different Azek product lines. Azek offers some products made from pvc, others are composite, and some have the fake timber effect, others don’t—there really are quite a few different price points and styles which I found somewhat confusing. I am not sure what exactly makes the difference In prices. For now we picked out the tigerwood from TimberTech in part because it is in stock at the lumberyard. For other styles there was a 3 month wait. We may yet change our minds If we hear convincing reviews.

If you live in a high moisture area I would definately not recommend CorrectDeck, although now they carry an anti-fungal board, and I cannot comment on that. I believe I should have been advised by the manufaturer or contractor that my deck might be suseptible to mold. Unfortunatly, I was not and now I am stuck with this deck, I should look into a legal action against them, I'm so furstrated that I invested all of this money for a less maintenance deck and got a deck that I have to continuously clean with bleach/water solution (the only product I found to kill the mold) and then within a week or two the mold starts reapparing, it looks horrible.
