Donna OH ....fire near you?

I saw on the news last night that there was a whole block that burned in Massilon. Was that near you? I could only see the headlines with it, couldn't hear the details. I was thinking that was close to you. Hoping no one was hurt.

Tami, yes, that was our downtown!! Thank God, no one was seriously hurt. One fireman was burnt on the back of the neck & several peeps were treated for smoke inhalation. The owners on the main bldg where fire started also live there & were all able to get out accept for one cat! So so sad as these bldgs were way over 100 yrs old. Not sure, but they might have to be torn down--

My DD took some pics & I'll send them to you! We counted 12 fire trucks, many ambulances from all over!

It should still work, as it's the only one I use! We were out at the time I saw it and couldn't hear anything. I told DH that I was sure I had the right town and person connection! How sad. No one builds like those old buildings were built. They are so beautiful, instead of all this yucky green and grey glass! The old ones had character.

I love Fraxinus family ash trees and am even applying preventative treatment to two of mine, ===>>> does DeNile river run thru your area ... be done with them ... who cares what you love .. its not like you cant find some other trees to love ... crikey man .... free your love ... ken ps: yeah.. i treated mine.. when it cost 5 to 10 bucks per tree ... systemic drench .. then the damn weed trees got on 8 to 12 inches thick.. and 20 feet tall .. or whatever.. and it became clear it was going to start costing 50 bucks a tree... and the trees just happened to be at that point in their lives.. where i either cut them down for free ... or the following season had to pay MORE MONEY to have them professionally taken down ... i lost my love for the ash ... as i fired up the chainsaw.. and ran around the yard yelling.. TIMBER!!! .... they burned just fine.. and i think i heard these small little voices screaming about the inhumanity ... lol .. GET RID OF THEM ...

Mike your trees are beautiful!! I hope that I can put a couple of trees inground too but my husband is still working on my greenhouse foundation so I am not sure how it will be in the end. Oh I am in love with your gardenia! Is gardenia easy to take care of or are they fuzzy like camellia (beware I am a camellia serial killer!!)? Mike, I can see in one of the picture that you use air root pruning pot!! I have a few trees with these kind of container but I didn’t repot them yet. They seems happy so I will let them be until this fall ( or when promix will be in sale lolll) but I am quite curious about what their roots will look like compare to those in traditional pot. Did you see a difference with these kind of pots?

It looks like there may be some fabric shopping around where there are Menonite groups and others who adhere to modest dressing Last week I watched a video about a young Menonite girl who was sewing a dress with her mother. She and she mother went fabric shopping. This was apparently in Woolwich township in New Jersey. The name of the video is "Hollies Dress". I found it interesting. It looks to me that the fabrics that they are using are synthetic fabrics. The author of the accompanying article said that they have to actually put the fabric in boiling water to set the pleats that they use in their basic dress pattern. I am sure that they did not have to do that before these plastic fabrics. They did iron the clothes, though. I would rather iron or wear it with wrinkles than wear the fabrics that so much is made from anymore. I hadn't heard anything about this on my local news. Can't find much online now either. Do they know what started it? Fire is so quick and so devastating. I'm glad your family wasn't directly affected, but to lose your downtown DOES affect everyone in that area.

Todays paper said 6 State Fire Marshalls were unable to determine the cause of the fire. But the fire started in an Engraving bldg which contained tons of chemicals--They're pretty sure that 3 of the stores will be gone. I tried counting in my head (duh) how many bldgs were involved & I'm coming up with about 12. Most of them just have smoke & water damage & are going to try to open within a wk!

Glad no one was hurt bad, but I have not heard about the fire, but then all we are getting on local news is flooding, road closers, melting snow and more rain/snow coming. If we want any thing extra we have to go here or CNN

I'm thinking of coming out to the games on the 23rd... Is the Cleveland airport a PITA to get in and out of? I don;t like driving in cities that I dont know...

How far is the Cleveland airport from Canton... I mean how long of a drive? and are there any decent but not expensive motel/hotels nearby? I checked the comfort suites and they had no rooms and were around 150 a night.. little expensive for me...

Kat, I'm closer to Cleveland airport than Donna is. DH works right around the corner! It's not bad. In fact, I was there last week. Akron/Canton might be closer for airports. They do alot of advertising here for that one being less crowded, but I've never been there. I don't fly, either! Without exact addresses for the airports, Cleveand to Massilon is approx 1 hour driving 54.5 miles.
Akron/Canton to Massilon is approx 32.8 miles 39 minutes, but I don't know where the airport is in relation to Massilon. Donna will know better. Go to hotels dot com for a selection of places to stay in the area. There were quite a few when I pulled it up. Didn't know your dates, so didn't try to find any available rooms. If we are home when you come I would love to drive down to see you! There are plenty of places to stay in Cleveland, also. Amish Door is a great place to eat! I see they have an Inn also.

Canton is about 1 hr South of Cleve, & very easy to get to!

I love the old buildings too. It's a shame to lose that piece of history. I hope they can save some of them.
