Color light ing question.

I'm considering to install a Jendy multi color light for the pool.

Because I choose the plaster color is grey, do you think the color of the light will show very well as supposed if the plaster is white?

anyone here has a color light with grey color plaster? how does it look at night with the multi color light on?

My PB seems to think the color works better with white plaster.

We have a Hayward Colorlogic and a medium grey plaster. When filled, the water in a grey plaster pool looks quite blue. The Colorlogic colors all look about the same (we ran the light before the pool was plastered so had a baseline for comparison) except "white" which looks light blue now. The multi-color shows are really spectacular!

Due to the dark surface of your pool, I would consider Pentair's IntelliBrite LED light. I believe Pentair is the only LED light that uses reflectors and a custom lens to help spread the light into your pool better. The Jandy and ColorLogic lights appear to just have LEDs behind a standard glass lens.

I would start them inside. I have a room in my basement that I start seeds in and they germinate much sooner then the seed packet states.The room stays around 70.I started strawflower seeds Sunday and they were sprouting on Wednesday 5 days sooner then the packet says. I have a 4 shelf unit made from wood with 2-4 foot shop lights above the trays. The lights are on 14 -16 hrs a day from day one.

I'm w/ Mike on this from the flower description. Ceropegia woodii blooms are small white, pink or lt. purple rather phallic-looking blooms (excuse me, but they are); I've had them bloom in white (slightly smaller than an inch long) & have seen the lt. pink/purple blooms on the varigated version, but never seen red Ceropegia blooms. I'd agree abt Dischidia, maybe searching for blooming Dischidia images would show it, but from the description, color & size as well it sounds like it. I've seen blooming Dischidias in both white (D. picta I think) & red, maybe D. phillipenses. Also, the mention of the inflated leaf, golf ball size is something I've read happens in some Dischidias, those I believe are sometimes referred to as Ant Plants. Actually there's a Hoya Forum post that shows the small red bloom, I'll check & if I find it I'll post back.

Yes, guides with arrows pointing to field marks aren't the ultimate in identification. Guides with notes about other birds with similar characteristics and then explanations about what to look for the tell the two apart are helpful. I have found that in most cases where IDs are difficult it's really beneficial to research more than one resource. We really have some tools now that weren't commonly available even fifteen years ago and that's access to the internet and cheaper digital cameras. I keep a digital right by the regular birding window. I take rapid frames of the birds in question from as many angles as I can. Sometimes you don't have time to focus and be fussy. Getting a less than perfect picture is not always a failure. If it helps you to catch the target sitting next to a known bird, immediately you have a handle on size. I also prefer real photographs I find on this forum, because painted representations just leave too much to artistic license. LOL. I sometimes wonder how many really cool sparrows I missed by logging them as something common? So many folks just causally dismiss them because they look similar. This is where you sometimes find your lifers! Keep a notepad handy to your observation station to mark down anything you notice on field marks. I have a good memory but the image in the brain can play tricks on you quickly. Draw a pic if you must, and try to catch some photos. Document, document and document.

Is that true, FoxCrane? I was told that the benefit of placing the recessed lights right at the edge of the counter was that it wouldn't cast a shadow?

We went with the Colorlogic because I've read on these forums that it's much brighter than the IntelliBrite. I don't know for sure as I haven't seen an IntelliBrite, but I will say I've very impressed with the Colorlogic. It's nearly as bright as the 250w light I removed to install it.

The Jandy Color light is not LED. It actually has eight halogen bulbs in it. I tried them out and found that they were not as bright as the sAM lights. They also suffered from a bad lens design that didn't spread/mix the light as well as the sAM. The kicker is that Jandy suggests the replacement of all eight lights anytime one burns out. That's a $100 bill each time it occurs.

For non-LED, the sAM is still the king. If you're looking for LED, the Pentair Intellibrite seem to do a great job. It has a custom lens that directs light downward to increase the surfaces it reflects off of.
