Casual Eating Area Lighting Help

I'm buying this table and will be putting it in this room(perpendicular to the island).

I'd like to have a light fixture(s) over the table, but

1) not sure it will work because of the table location and placement of recessed lights. The table may not be centered in the room. It may be more in the front half(closer to kitchen) of the room, which means the light placement may look awkward because where the recessed lighting is. There are 3 pairs of recessed lights equally spaced. If this is the case, would you just forgo a fixture over the table.

2) If you think I should put something over the table, I'm considering using the same pendants as in the kitchen. While I'm not a matchy person, I am trying to unify the spaces and I think this might help. Plus, I have enough "different" elements going on, that I don't want it to start looking chaotic.

The more I think about it, the more odd I think it might look with a hanging light only in the front half of the room. I'm thinking either the table would need to be centered in the room, or matching lighting in the back half.

ugghh...why is it always so complicated!

Has the CL table been purchased and placed? Why does the print show a round table there? I think the first thing to consider is what is this room really used for. Is it for eating? Can you take the chairs in front of the FP out? I don't think this is that complicated. All of your inquiries seem to put the table outside the center, so yes lighting is going to look weird.

Personally I'd center my dining table in that room, hang a nice light over the center, maybe make it an adjustable hanging gig for just in case, and then decorate around the result.

My sense is that recessed lights kind of go away, even when they're placed oddly relative to "real" fixtures. I also think that wherever the table ends up, that will create a justification for the fixture. I wouldn't worry so much about where it is in the room. Function over form...

What about a variation on a theme like this...

I'm a little curious as to why you are looking for a golden color? I'm seeing blue, pink and white in your window treatment, and a only small amount of yellow in your tablecloth. Are you going for a French country, deep golden color, or more of an off white?

I would suggest recessed lighting. I am not a fan of track lighting. You could put in 2 or 4 recessed lights and it would look great without adding another hanging light. I really like the 2 you picked for the kitchen & island.

Carly, your room reminds me of my own family room. I have a fireplace the same color brick as yours and a vaulted ceiling so the fireplace brick is pretty tall. Right now my walls are painted SW Clary Sage, which looks very similar to your paint color. I'm not a huge valance fan, but since you said yours were custom made and expensive, I'd keep them for now. They're not horrible and bring some warmth to the space. I would get a new rug as I don't think it's helping the space. Actually, I'd probably do without a rug altogether but because I generally don't like rugs under the table. What about putting a smaller one by the chairs? I'd also get different pillows. Pick one of the colors in the valance; I'd probably go with solid red. I think the clock looks a lot better hung as well. I feel like the hearth could use something else. What about a candle arrangement?

Hi Diana Garcia , Wow, sounds like you're trying to juggle a lot! Let's see if we can help. Rug: Not sure having one in the eating area is essential. It will quickly get dirty & creates awkward movement of the chairs. You have beautiful floors & lots of natural lights - the right curtains would really frame the space nicely. Light Fixture: Painting the fixture has it's own issues b/w heat & chipping. The color is less the problem than the faux-candle light fixtures. A modern pendant would really spruce up the space. Curtains: Gray curtains would fade into your color scheme, making them look bland. Look for something more colorful & let your crown moulding be seen! You don't have to paint the cabinets - an update to fixtures & appliance would go a long way. Possibly the countertop if that's in your budget.
