I want to live with Ina Garten

Wouldn't it be lovely to live with Ina Garten--the Barefoot Contessa on the Food Network? I love her house in the Hamptons and would love to have her cook for me.

Absolutely! I love the grounds of her house and have yet to be disappointed in any of her recipes.

Not sure I'd want to live with her and Jeffery, but I'd like to be her best friend who gets invited over frequently. Same for Lydia Bastianich who reminds me so much of my grandmother in mannerisms, looks and cooking style.

I too went through a period of "let down" or depression after we finished our home. The whole process is so intense and creative than it is back to the reality of everyday mundane life. I think many people thrive on a certain level of stress and homebuilding definitely provides for that. I also enjoyed the constant interaction with the people as my daily life is pretty quiet being at home with my kids most days. It has taken 6 months but things are definitely feeling more "normal" now. I am finally to the point where I can say I love my house and just am content with the knowledge that I will have exciting projects in the future to work on. Cah3036 Â I know what you mean about decorating. I think I could boost my spirits about the house quite a bit if I knew how to decorate it and had a lot of fun money to play with - which I definitely donÂt :). In six months we have only hung one picture on the wall and that was our wedding picture! I am at a loss as to what to do with the rest. Maybe I need to start hanging out in the decorating forum instead of the home building one. Good luck and know that it will get easier with time. Getting out and laughing with friends and hubby help a lot too. Start other projects as time/money allows. Things will get dinged up, scratched, and stained and know that each one gets a little easier. I was determined from the start not to let that stuff get to me as we built this house to raise our kids in Â not as a showroom. That reminds me Â I have a friend who is actually going to sell her home that they built almost two years ago because her husband is so stressed out by living in a new place. She said he constantly yells at her and their four kids for messing the place up and doing anything that might "damage" the house. He wasnÂt like that in their previous home. His obsession with keeping the place perfect is driving them out and back into an older, cheaper place where she hopes he can relax. WeÂll seeÂ

I have a Waring electric juicer. We got on a mojito kick and arthritis in my fingers was keeping me from easily using my hand-juicers any more. (I had a lime green hand squeezer and broke it the first time out.) Yes, it was a little pricey, but I can do bushels of citrus now! I love to make citrus curds and squeeze lots of oranges too. All without pain now, which is worth it to me. I bought a table top hand juicer similar to this, so I could manage to juice one lemon or lime when the occasion calls for it which works better than any of those I've ever tried with the exception of the electric. Her show makes me sleepy, the pacing is so slow. The food looks basic but good. The kitchen is the standard TV cooking show kitchen - a fancy range in the background, a cooktop in front where the actual cooking happens - camera-convenient - with no apparent vent hood. When you think about it, TV kitchens are bizarre - the prep and cooking zones are both on the same peninsula or island, everything happens in a 3 foot prep space, in which there's no ''parallel processing'' - only one dish is prepped at a time, even if the show presents multiple dishes. If you or I had 8 hours to prep and cook a main, a couple sides, and a dessert, that would work fine - heck we could do it in a canoe. The Laura Calder kitchen is beautiful, it is an actual home as far as I know, and the kitchen looks large enough to actually work in. My favorite cooking show kitchen is the one from ''Chuck's Day Off'' - it is not the standard TV kitchen.

What does "Ina's recipe" really mean though, beyond that you got it from her cookbook? For me it means that it's a recipe coming to me from a source (Ina) that I find generally reliable, and not much more. Unless she adds some accompanying comments, I have no thoughts or expectations as to whether it's a recipe she actually developed, or a team of chefs developed for her, or that her mom passed down to her on a scrap of paper and who knows where it came from before that. There's not much copyrightable about recipes. From copyright.gov: Copyright law does not protect recipes that are mere listings of ingredients. Nor does it protect other mere listings of ingredients such as those found in formulas, compounds, or prescriptions. Copyright protection may, however, extend to substantial literary expression—a description, explanation, or illustration, for example—that accompanies a recipe or formula or to a combination of recipes, as in a cookbook.

I'd love to live there temporarily with her and help her cook. I'm so visual, I learn much better 'doing' than reading (have a couple of her cookbooks), and I'd really love to make entertaining as easy and rewarding as she does....

I've got the space now, I don't always feel like I've got the skills to go with it.

Funny you should ask this as I have her Company Pot Roast in the slow cooker right now. I love her recipes and would not mind cooking in her kitchen.

I have all her books and have yet to make a recipe dud.

She is my favourite celebrity chef. I make a number of her recipes regularly and they never fail.

Love, love her house and grounds. Jeffrey is so spoiled!
We also really like Lidia Bastianich. I have her current one here now, from the library.

I agree with Alice's husband. I find her voice and manner annoying.

I've never tried her recipes but the few episodes I've watched, she reminds me of the other obese female chef (forgot the name) who also seemed to throw excessive amounts of butter and cream into everything. One look at the chef tells you it might be better to try other sources to find more healthy (or less unhealthy) options.

I googled her....never tried any of her recipes. Have to research this more.

I watched the Nate Berkus show he's on, last night, for the first time. The decorating was to die for!

I like her attitude - she isn't afraid to buy a prepared dessert to serve company. I find that refreshing. I'm with summershine - I find her manner to be relaxing and soothing.
