What was the name of the last fast food place you ate? We are getting ready to go to Captain D's for our lunch. Haven't been there for some time.

We stopped at Wendy's yesterday for lunch. I don't think their 'bargain' burgers can get ANY thinner without seeing through them! Goodness. Dean loves their chili. I guess it filled the void. :/

The recipe was from Euell Gibbons (see link): " Euell relates, "I peeled the roots and cut the starchy cores in thin slices and put them to dry on clean papers in my attic. At the same time, I decided to see if the cabbage leaves improved by drying, so cut a number of the cones of tightly rolled leaves into thin slices and put them to dry on separate papers. While working with these products I was acutely aware of the skunky odor which seems to permeate every part of the plant. After a few weeks of drying the odor disappeared, and as with other arums, it seems that drying and aging dispels the biting pungency and acridity which makes them inedible in the fresh state". He goes on to relate that he ground some of the root chips and mixed the meal half and half with wheat flour for pancakes. When the familiar burning occurred, he dried the remaining chips for a total of six months for further aging! Again, Euell notes that he ground the chips to a fine meal, mixed it half and half with wheat flour. This time there was no burning sensation at all and the flavor was pronounced, but very pleasant, a bit like cocoa. By adding butter and maple syrup, the pancakes were "unusually good"." You probably already know you can get wine or cheese or ice cream maps in different states. Last summer we visited several wineries in the Camden ME area. We also pick up a list of the farmers markets so in Maine I can highly recommend the Friday market in Brunswick and the one in Bath (sorry, I think it was a Saturday). Since it's a drive, I only get to the Tilton NH Winter Farmers Market every couple of weeks. Friends from Marlborough MA thought it was worth the 1 1/2 hour drive (they must drive fast) to visit. Lots of value added products like jams and jellies but also the basics. Closer to me, the Hopkinton NH winter market has only a few vendors but Wind Song Farm has wonderful swiss chard. Kind of pricey but worth it. The chard is grown in their high tunnel and has sweetened with winter cold. Nothing like it in the big supermarkets. NH grown mushrooms are available at the Tilton market - grown in Tamworth. Concord NH has a very nice food coop that's open to the public. Across the street is Bread and Chocolate, a wonderful European style bakery. At the other end of Main Street across from the State House is Crust and Crumb. She makes wonderful unigue whoopie pies as well as several different kinds of breds. She's local but is gaining attention as a recipe tester for AP. Alison Ladman. Of course, up on congested Loudon Rd you can get locally made ice cream at Arnie's! You can make a grand tour around Concord NH since there are several apple orchards, blueberry farms, etc. Gould Hill in Hopkinton has a very large variety of heirloom apples - see the list on their website. There is also a local garlic festival in Canterbury. Organic garlic and blueberries are available in Contoocook NH. The Best pies are at Richardson's Farm Stand in Boscawen NH. They make their own ice cream, too, although up until recently they picked up the ice cream at their family place in Dracut MA. They don't have a lot of apples and veggies but I can get a good deal on apple seconds for baking.

While the lawyer's argument was good, I'm really getting tired of the "blame the other guy" mentality of today's society. When I was poor, I never ate out--you can fix healthy meals at home for less money. Sure, a cheeseburger for 99 cents is cheap, but how many people get just a cheeseburger--they certainly will get fries and a coke to go with it. That increases the price dramatically (not to mention the health risks). It's no secret that fast food chains make their profits on sodas. Unfortunately, too many people today are too lazy to cook. My son's widow and my stepson's wife do not know how to cook. Their mothers didn't cook. The kids have been raised on fast food. To me, that's akin to child abuse or neglect. It's very sad. Back to Harry's Law...I like the series more each time I watch it. The writers are very good, and Kathy Bates is great.

always-it's true not all Walmarts are bad! We use to have so many different grocery stores and now there are just Walmart and a few Dillon's or Kroger's and one Hy-Vee. I despise Walmarts business practices and rarely shop there but the one I do go to is probably on par with any excellent grocery store-just spotless, clean and well stocked! STILL no All Power Pacs-wah! Let us know how to Foca liquid works for you!! I'd like to try the All odor power pacs.

Wendy's last week. I'd been cleaning all day and didn't feel like cooking so we went through the drive-thru and got hamburgers. That's about the extent of fast food for me and not that often. Too much F-A-T!

I guess everybody eats fast food. DH and I went thru Burger King last Thursday, we had a coupon. Their one dollar double cheeseburgers are fairly decent.

We only stop at fast food when we're on a trip....on the way to or coming home. Usually Burger King. It does not make me too happy. I call it survival food.

We went to The Root Beer Stand yesterday evening for our first ice cream (ok, soft-serve) of the summer. The place is an old A&W Root Beer place from the 1950's or 60's and hasn't been updated too much. Very quaint. They recently gave up their franchise and now go by the Root Beer Stand name. Ice cream is still yummy!

Well, our visit to Captain D's was good today. The men got all you can eat shrimp, fish, fries and hush puppies. I got the baked seasoned tilapia with rice and broccoli and a side salad along with one of their good bread sticks. Cheryl got a shrimp and fish dinner and green beans. We all had unsweetened iced tea. It was very good. The men also had cole slaw with their meal. One ate 9 pieces of fish and the other ate 7!

I had a burger and onion rings, water, and a cup of coffee. Wes had the same, with tea.

Taco Bell after finishing my taxes. Not sure if I was rewarding myself or punishing myself! Although I do like their tacos occasionally and it's fairly cheap.

Been wanting to try Burger King's Sausage/Egg breakfast sandwich but haven't had the chance.

Went to a nice little diner this morning for breakfast. Good food.

McDonalds yesterday...my son, his girlfriend and I split the 50 chicken McNugget meal. And I got a most delicious Mocha Frappe. The chicken? I could leave it.

I think it was Dairy Queen...had a steak sandwich, or could have been Jack in the Box...had egg rolls. It was last week and I can't remember which one was last.

I haven't been to one in at least 25 years. I don't consider Panera a fast food place, but a coffee house. Fast food places don't play soft jazz and have their own array of delicious baked goods and homemade soups. I eat there once a week.

Arby's. I ordered two Junior Roast Beef sandwiches for a dollar each off the value menu.I took the meat out of one and combined it with the other and threw out the extra bun. Cheaper than buying a regular sized sandwich. It was my breakfast yesterday on the way to a day out with friends. I need to start my day with protein.

I stopped at McDonalds yesterday on the way home from church. I got two of the McChicken sandwiches and two apple pies to bring home. Not bad for less than $4. The chicken sandwiches are just $1 each and all white meat. I had some slaw already made in the refrigerator. That was lunch for us.

Kentucky Fried, The colonel. I had a free coupon for baked chicken. The chicken was dry, the coleslaw was watery, mashed potatos were instant, gravey...so so.

that would be a Delta plane...cruising at 37,000 feet on the way to Orange County, Ca last night...a roast beef slider...it was tasty...(probably cause i haven't had one in over a month!)

DQ last week for their newest blizzard that has brownies in it. DQ blizzard is always a big temptation for me but I often resist.

I can't remember. It may have been a McDonald's in a shopping center in Kahului on Maui in February 2009. We were shopping for lanai furniture, hitting Lowe's, Home Depot, Sears, you know all the 'biggies'. LOL (Not much selection on Maui, folks.) I probably had to get something with sugar in it to recover from the music they blast in Pier One.

Saturday night was DH's night to cook, so he went to the local Mexican Restaurant (don't know the name) and got tacos and burritos. It was okay but I still think he cheated!!!

Just had a fish sandwich from Burger King; this was the new cilantro-and-lime mayo version; ick.
As said earlier, Wendy's fish sandwiches are better.

Yesterday we had sandwiches, thanks to Togos. DH loves their hot pastrami sandwiches, but they are not on our diet, so it is a special treat when I give in. I had a 3 cheese sandwich.

I agree Panera is not a fast food place. It's a chain like Olive Garden ,Atlantic Bread, Red lobster..In fact the salad industry awarded 4 of the top 10 best rated salads in American restaurants to Panera. I love their Fuji Apple chicken salad.

last nite we went to BObs Steakhouse out at the river. We had the smallest steak that is the size of a 2 pound roast and I brought part of mine home for another meal. The cost is only 13.95 each. They are so good. Too bad we have to drive 20 miles to get there though. I am a cook at a restaurant in Onida SD and today I had chili con carne over mashed potatoes. O so good.

Fast food is when you order at a counter, there is no table service and you clean up yourself after eating.

Panera is fast food.
