Comments (21)Scott, what if the temp outside is 40 degrees and she wants the spa to reach 100 degrees? My understanding from my PB is that the heat pump only increases your temp relative to the outside temp (maybe 40degrees more). now she is stuck at 80 degree. I am getting a gas heater because I want to get in the hot tub in the cold winter nights and relax. If it is 40 degree outside, I don't want that tub to be below my body temp because I will feel cold. I want it 100 degrees and I know a gas heater can do that. What I think watermom wants to do is extend her swim season in Connecticut where the swim season is relatively short. that would be pretty expensive using a gas heater although it can do it easily and quickly. I am thinking about getting both since I want to extend my swim season in April and October but want the advantage of a hot tub in the winter. Is that overkill? I am holding off on the heatpump until after our first swim season to see how much we want to use the pool during these two months. Have you or any of the other pool builders done pools with both? would you recommend this or is it a waste of money? Watermom, I live in North Carolina. The gas heater is for both my spa and pool. this is my first pool so I am learning just like you are. I plan on using my gas heater for times we want to swim and if I find we are using it more than 1-2 times a month for the pool, than I will add the heatpump. my set up is ready for the heatpump to be added....See MoreHas anyone dyed grout on a pool?
Comments (6)Hi Houseful, thanks for the congrats! I heard about a backyard makeover that a morning tv talk show here in Houston was giving away. It was for the "most deserving" family. I had to write a brief paragraph and submit pics of my backyard. We have 3 boys in wheelchairs plus another very active boy. Actually, I think the tv clips are still on the website, www.greatdayhouston.com. You click on, "and the winner is...". We were finalists #4. It was all done by voting online. It has been a wonderful experience for all of us. We are getting not only a pool, but a spa, kitchen and mosquito control system, landscaping, pergola and extra decking. I will post pics as soon as I figure out how! Regarding the grout stain, I called a 1-800# off of a bottle of stain I saw at Home Depot. I forgot the brand, but they said it wouldn't hold up to the chlorine water. Rats. This white grout looks like bathtub caulking. Yuck. There is too much of it to remove (lots of small tiles on a large wall as well as waterline tile). I hate to make a fuss since I think the pool company has already gone over their $60,000 budget. They are putting in an upgrade finish that is smoother than plaster as well as a few other extra items. I guess I'll have to just plan on staining the grout every year or so....See MoreDavid Pool build: We have Equipment-Finally!
Comments (0)We are starting to inch forward...I actually see the end in site. They graded for the pavers the other day...but then the goofs came back and dug up all the pipes to connect the plumbing and equipment. So now we have to regrade that area. Supposedly, electric is coming tomorrow and stone coping and waterfall tomorrow and Saturday.....not holding my breath. Anyway here are some boring pics of equipment. Here is a link that might be useful: our pool build...See MoreFiberglass Pools....Latham Pools vs Thursday or Leisure?
Comments (12)Our pool from Leisure developed cracks on the top ledge of the spa. I truly believe it was the installers fault though. Seemed like the ledge slopes downward. Anyway, Leisure sent someone to our house to buff the top layer and redo the colorant there. About 6-12 months later the cracks were back though. And although we had cracks it did not leak. We had the Icon. So our new house we installed a Latham pool. We did not add a spa this time. So no problems with this one....See Moretresw
