For those of you who sell on eBay. Have you noticed the new, increased rates that they implemented eating into your profits much? I've hesitated getting back into it because of the rate hikes. Just wondered if it's deterred you from selling.

The new rates coupled with Paypal fees have deterred me from selling items. Oh, and lack of motivation.

I try to be very careful about what I sell on ebay. I research the item to be sure I have a surefire sale item. My selling name is weatheredwell.

Lately I have been buying. Someone needs to give me a jump start so I can begin listing items. Care to give me a kick?

Only if you give me a good kick Kim. LOL Like you, I want to be sure I've got something sellable before wasting my time and listing fee money. I just wish our Craig's List was more active here. I need to give it a try too. Since it's free, I have nothing to lose I guess.

I also have large appliance items that I need to list in our local classified weekly. It's just getting it done. I don't have a very good excuse not to be doing it either. Ok, I'm bending over then it's your turn. LOL

My cuttings (French Connection, Pink baron, Harlot) are fine so far. I planted them all yesterday. Everything has roots except Harlot (the one I wanted most) but I planted them anyway before they rot so hopefully they will be OK. If you look in his listings it says if they are soft or semi hard wood. I have no luck with green cuttings so I try to watch what I get. But if it's something I really want & a good price, I might buy anyway & hope for the best. Linda

The biggest problem for the buyer is that she only has 45 days from date of purchase to open a case in eBay. If she seems willing to work with you, I would encourage her to wait until close to the deadline and then open a case. That way, she has protection if the item isn't delivered, but you don't have to refund her money right away. However, you risk receiving negative feedback with any delay. You'll have to judge how frustrated or accepting the buyer is with the delay vs. your willingness to lose your money and the item. As other posters have suggested, keeping the buyer informed as to the steps you are taking is always reassuring to the buyer.

Thanks Sandra, My mystery has been solved. The same item is listed twice under two different seller names--although it's the same entity in reality. One auction is the lower Buy It Now price, and one is the higher auction price. (The website price was in-between.) I made a phone call to their brick and mortar store and once they answer the question, I will probably buy it at the cheaper "Buy It Now" price so I have eBay or PayPal protection. Do you think that's the way to go?

The 48 hours refers to how long the offer stands. In other words after 48 hour the offer made expires if the seller doesn't accept it. It has nothing to do with how long the buyer has to pay if it is accepted. Your listing may have immediate payment required in the TOS but if it doesn't then the buyer could take as long a a week to pay. Even the "immediate payment required" has been challenged in the past in favor of the buyer. The buyer has four days from the time he is notified he won to pay before you can file a dispute for non payment. Once filed the buyer is given 4 more days to pay. So the buyer has 8 days total with a dispute. Just because you can file after 4 days doesn't mean you should. It will only lead to negative feedback against you as a seller. The buyer is not sitting at his computer waiting for 48 hours for a seller to respond. He may have left for the weekend, be on a business trip or not seen he has won yet. Most seller wait 7 days before worrying about it.

Yes, that higher final fee does make a difference. I keep saying I am going to quit, but I don't. I still think it is fun. I sell something that makes good money once in a while. One thing I have had to do was quit going to the post office every day. I now go 3 times a week.

Good point Jackie. With the cost of gasoline, extra trips would just cut that much more into any profit from sales. Dang! Hang in there girl, especially if you enjoy it.

I'm holding onto everything that I would normally sell on Ebay, and I'm going to have a garage sale at the end of the summer instead.
