will this backsplash be ok in bathroom?

I am at the counter install point in my remodel. The bathroom has beadboard all around and vanity installed over it. The electrician did not plan for a 4" backsplash and placed light switch and outlets a bit low on the wall over vanity.

My question is has anyone done or seen a 2 1/2" backsplash? This is what the stone fabricator suggested. I've never seen this and can not picture if it will look wrong. I do not have the option of a tile backsplash because of the beadboard and chair rail. I could have the electrician move the 4 switches/outlets, but we have already painted and it is the same for both bathrooms so would like to avoid this.

Any thoughts?

One thing we did, since we had side medicine cabinets that had to be installed at a certain height, was to have a backsplash as high as we wanted it and then just cut in for the outlets. It looks fine. If you would have enough height in the backsplash to go *on top* of the outlets too, then it's just like a full-height kitchen backsplash with outlets in it. No problem either way, and better than an skinny backsplash, IMO.

My sink has no backsplash and that hasn't really be a problem either. If the beadboard is behind the sink that could act as backsplash.

But I would probably consider something higher than lower, if I wanted a stone backsplash.

Lighter beige or grey would be pretty. I would do either the riverrock or the small tiles that are in the shower, for the backsplash. I too though was thinking of doing nothing for the backsplash because it does look so pretty already. As for the Weird Wall I suggest three, say 12x12, framed pics of nature. White mats with wood frame to match the mirror frame. I would do sepia colored pics of leaves or trees. You could save a bundle by going outside and taking some pics yourself, get readymade frames if you can get color to match. I like the idea of a simple plant on the vanity. Maybe a white, ceramic pot. I would cover the "dirt" in the pot with small river rocks. You can get them at the dollar or craft store pretty cheap. Or to save even more you can get some out of the yard, like pea gravel, and shine them up with spray on sealant or I think when I was a kid we used glue.

Sorry, but I have to agree with @User. But setting that aside, that surface is entirely impractical as a backsplash. The purpose of a backsplash is to make the kitchen’s wall(s) wipeable of splash and splatter from cooking and prepping. The pebble surface is the opposite of wipeable.

That kind of modern vanity looks best without a backsplash. If it's a basement bath, I presume that it gets less use than the others, so as long as you use an eggshell paint (and caulk between vanity and wall), there shouldn't be any issues.

Yep, they can make it look fatter than the slab actually is by laminating material to the edges. It's done on countertops frequently.

IMO the 2 1/2" would look a little skimpy. My granite backsplash in bathroom is 4" and that was done automatically by the fabricator. We never discussed any other height; 4" was just their standard height.

This is an 'under construction' photo of a half bath that I just finished in my cellar. I made the vanity out of an old Craigslist bureau, and the mirror is from an oak hall tree. Due to low ceiling height, I had a 2.5" back splash made, and it looks fine, in my eyes.

Here's the finished vanity and backsplash. You can see that I made it the antithesis of 'spa-like', preferring to go with vintage finds that I can restore.

My3dogs- what a difference the finishing touches make in your space! Very pretty. And I think your backsplash looks perfect because it seems to be the same size as your sink reveal.

palimsest- I think I am just going to skip the backsplash altogether. My beadboard it finished in a semi gloss paint an it will only be two of us using this bathroom. So not too concerned with water mess. And the mirror above is framed in the same moulding as crown and door/windows. It might be too much going on under that mirror with beadboard, backsplash and molding.

update-my fabricator and GC talked me into the 2 1/2 backsplash telling me that I will eventually regret not using one. I can't go higher because the beadboard crown/chair rail. I can't imagine that it will look off. I wouldn't even notice in my3dogs pic unless it was pointed out.

palimpsest- just curious, you said your sink doesn't have one-is it a pedestal or vanity? My setup is a 5 ft double sink vanity with wall on left side and pony wall to shower on the right. This may change your opinion, because now I have 3 walls to protect in a squeezed in double vanity. The outlets/switches are on the right and left walls only and the placement of the framed mirror is 4" from countertop spanning the length of vanity. (I am 5'2" so like a lower mirror)
