She could have a litter-box aversion because of the pain when she pees.

OR, the antibiotic isn't working and she's still ill.

Try putting a clean litterbox somewhere else in the house, she most likely associates the old box with pain. Hopefully that will alleviate the problem.

Ask your vet if you can be put on a payment plan, many vets will work something out with you or point you in a direction to get help.

.........and it shouldn't cost $200 for a followup urinalysis on your cat. I think you should call the vet and tell them you think she's still having problems and ask for a recheck. Ask them the charges before you go in but explain it's for a previous problem.

My Sofie died 4 months ago. And if $200 could have prevented her death, I would have paid it in a heartbeat.

Be thankful your cat is 17. You don't have much longer to take care of her, so do whatever you have to in order to keep her comfortable and healthy.

Is cat de clawed? De clawed cats can have litter box issues, though in a 17 year old cat, probably on regular cat food. its probably diet that is catching up with her aging body. A well taken care of cat on a proper diet can live much much longer then 17, the worlds oldest cat died at 36 and get this she existed before store brought cat foods!-

My parent's cats lived on Friskies wet and dry, and they lived to 25. So so, diet will not kill them, as long as it is a balanced diet. Sofie died at 5 for unknown causes, and she was on a great diet.

And declawed cats do not have litterbox issues, unless they are sick or stressed.

Well I moved my cat's litter box to the basement and problem solved.
So now she has two of them. Maybe she just didn't want to go up the stairs all the time? Who kows, but all is fine now.

It all depends on the cat- De- clawing itself is very stressful and should be illegal, so thats a lame statement (unless stressed)- it all depends I've seen cats that were nice without claws and others that bite and are ruined. Kind of like russian reulete, you know the idiotic game where you shoot yourself to see if it clicks harmlessly or fires a bullet hole right into your head.

Older cats should have extra boxes, I think your moving boxes was a great idea, as she gets older she could loose control of the bowls, so a box on each floor may be needed.

I also found that with my cat who is a rather large cat didn't like using a regular litter box. I went and purchased one of those larger sweater boxes that is 6 inches deep. Not only does he use it now he doesn't throw the litter all over the floor.
