Two urgent questions regarding puppy care

My little Sheltie (10 weeks old) is in her "puppy playpen" whining and crying and has done so for 30 minutes now. I'm not sure what to do, as I work from home and need time to DO SOME WORK. She's not in pain, has no needs, she's just *mad* that she's alone.

I've tried working in her field of vision, but even that doesn't help.

She keeps whining. I've read that sometimes you just have to let them "cry it out" but I just need to know that I'm not being cruel. This is TOUGH LOVE and it's TOUGH. These last 10 days, I've worn myself out watching her like a hawk and three days ago, the puppy playpen arrived and I figured it was the answer to my prayers! But now she keeps whining...

Question number two, in crate training, how much time does a little puppy spend in a crate during a typical day?

I saw this schedule but it seems like a LOT of crate time.

03:00 Let dog out, go to bathroom, return to crate

07:00 Let dog out, go to bathroom

07:15 Feed dog in crate, leave dog in crate

08:00 Let dog out, go to bathroom, return to crate

08:15 Owner goes to work

11:30 Owner returns, lets dog out

11:45 return dog to crate, owner returns to work

17:00 Owner returns, lets dog out, go to bathroom, play (use tether if necessary)

19:00 Feed dog in crate, leave in crate

19:45 Let dog out, go to bathroom, play

23:00 Let dog out, put dog in crate, go to bed.

I'd be so grateful for some answers.
