I just removed my daughter's blinds and drapes for the same reason. I'm planning on getting a roll-up shade too, and an inexpensive white valance to cover it that I can throw in the wash/bleach every week. Well at least that's my goal...good luck! :)

There are roll up shade kits at joanne's that you can customize with your own fabric. That probably is not good for your allergies, but what about a laminated fabric that could wipe clean easily? You could match it to your decor.

Personally..I wouldn't like them, but they wouldn't turn me off...I'd just plan on getting rid of them immediately.

But, when it's time to sell, I'd advise hanging simple rods with silk panels (make your own or hit walmart). Don't have them cover the window, just one panel on each side. That will dress up the space, but not cause you any allergy issues now while you're living there :)

How about white cotton or cotton-looking poly sheers that can be taken down and washed frequently?

HOw about a single honeycomb shade you can vacuum since I have them in my bedroom and they do not seem to bother my allergies. Due to my allergies, my mother had vinyl shades in my bedroom with no curtains.

Also, consider that you can put some really nice pulls on the shade that will help to dress them up and the pulls shouldn't gather much dust.
